NASCAR driver Jeffrey Earnhardt once spoke about the legacy of his name, one that began with his great-grandfather Ralph Earnhardt who raced in the 50's and 60's. The fourth-generation racing car driver, who has done stints in the Xfinity and Truck Series in NASCAR, reflected early on in his career about the meaning of racing with his historic name.
In an interview with the New York Times in 2008, the driver opened up on the importance of continuing the Earnhardt legacy in the racing world. Jeffrey said:
“It’s something you want to see continue, throughout the years, there’s always been an Earnhardt racing. It would be a shame to see it end.”
Jeffrey is the grandson of Dale Earnhardt, the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion who raced from 1975 - 2001, winning 76 races and securing 22 poles. He is also the nephew of fifteen-time most popular driver winner Dale Earnhardt Jr., who raced in the cup series from 1999-2017, winning 26 races - including two Daytona 500 wins.
Jeffrey is the son of Kerry Earnhardt, who has also driven in all three NASCAR series and currently co-owns an outdoor lifestyle brand with his wife.
Speaking about the support of fans he has going into the racing world with all the history behind his name, Jeffrey said (via NYT):
“It’s cool seeing that, knowing you got all them fans out there. I don’t think I would have that fan base if it wasn’t for my grandfather.”
Jeffrey made his debut in the Xfinity Series in 2008 at the age of 19, with his best career finishes in the series coming at Bristol in 2014 and Talladega in 2015, both races where he finished 12th. He also finished 11th in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona during a stint in the Cup Series in 2018.
Jeffrey Earnhardt currently races part-time in the Xfinity and Truck Series. During the 2024 season, he had six starts in the Xfinity Series racing for Sam Hunt Racing, scoring a single Top 10 finish. He also had one start in the Truck Series racing for MBM Motorsports.
