RFK Racing driver Brad Keselowski sees winning at Talladega later this week as "special." He's set on carrying the momentum from his performance in Texas forward to achieve that goal.
Finishing second at Texas Motor Speedway has been Keselowski's best position in the season so far. Aiming to win the 500-mile race at Talladega next, he opened up about the significance it carries for him. In the current field, he has won the race the most number of times (6).
Keselowski said (via Jayski):
"Talladega has been a special track for me, and I look forward to going there."
Brad Keselowski has not won a race since the 2021 Geico 500 at Talladega. That was his sixth win on the track and also his final one with Team Penske. He moved to RFK Racing (a team he also co-owns) the following season and hasn't won a race since. Winning this weekend would be of great significance to the 40-year-old.
Keselowski has confidence in his current car, as he said:
"I think we will have cars that can compete for the win. There are a lot of peripheral circumstances that would add to how special that would be if we were able to do that. From Mustang’s 60th birthday to where we are as a company to where I am at in my career. So, it would be special to be able to win."
Although Keselowski mentioned that the team would have cars to compete for the victory, he didn't feel so earlier in Texas.
Brad Keselowski's frustrated with pace in Texas despite 2nd place finish
While the Texas race last week marked Brad Keselowski's best finish in the 2024 Cup Series season thus far, he couldn't help but feel disappointed about not clinching the win.
In a post-race interview, he highlighted the lack of pace he experienced during the run.
"We didn’t have a ton of speed. Honestly, I am more frustrated than anything because I feel like we have a great team, and we don't have the speed to go with it. We are doing all we can do to overcome that."
He also blamed himself, being the co-owner of RFK Racing, for not being able to develop the cars enough:
"The driver in me is frustrated because I feel like these are races I am good enough to win but don’t have the speed enough to do it. The owner in me is mad as hell because it is my fault for not making the cars faster."
Keselowski stands seventeenth in the Cup Series championship, having led only six laps in the season so far. He will aim for his first win in over two years at Talladega later this week.
