Chase Briscoe recently shed light on a tire test at the Bristol Motor Speedway, ahead of the playoffs. He drew parallels between the tire performances in the recent test and the Food City 500 Cup Race held at Bristol in March.
Briscoe pilots the #14 Ford Mustang Dark Horse full-time in the Cup Series for Stewart-Haas Racing. The 2021 Rookie of the Year is in his fourth season in the Cup Series. Of the four times Briscoe has raced in Bristol, his best finish has been P13 twice.
Chase Briscoe and five other drivers participated in a tire test on Tuesday at the Bristol Motor Speedway. The Cup race in March had 54 lead changes, as all drivers managed their tires due to excessive track temperatures. However, as the playoff race in September is scheduled at night, it might make a difference in tire performance.
In an interview with Fox News Journalist Bob Pockrass, Chase Briscoe commented on the tire test earlier this week (via a post on X):
"It was weird, you know, like the first race there, everybody said it was the temperature, and when we tested the other day, it was 90-something degrees and we still quarted tires after 40 laps. But at the same time, there's only six cars there. So it never really put any rubber down truthfully, which was kind of weird,"
"The one thing I can't quite understand, is just how we'd raced two other races with the next-gen car and we never had that problem putting rubber down. ... I think if we had, you know, 40-something cars out there would have been a little bit different too, but definitely was kind of the same characteristics that we had at the race (Food City 500)," Briscoe added.
Briscoe sits P16 in the Cup Series driver standings. He has started 21 races this season, securing two top-five and six top-10finishes. As the playoffs draw near, he must deliver strong performances in the remaining regular-season races to ensure a playoff spot.
"It's really special to be back" - Chase Briscoe on piloting #14 for SHR's final Brickyard 400
Stewart-Haas Racing announced their exit from NASCAR at the end of the 2024 season, earlier this year. Since their announcement, emotions in the SHR garage have been running high as all team members adorn the SHR name one last time.
Chase Briscoe drives the #14 car, in which SHR co-owner Tony Stewart has secured several victories. The Indiana native, Briscoe, expressed his feelings on being privileged to pilot the #14 Ford in SHR's last Brickyard 400.
"It's going to be emotional for me, I mean full transparency, I cry every year just on the ride around deal so with it being on the oval and doing it in the 14, it's going to be definitely, probably emotional.
"It’s really special to be back here at home in Indiana. Every race car driver dreams of racing at Indianapolis, but, for me, it’s even more special because I grew up here," Briscoe said. [10:27]
A win for Chase Briscoe in his home state, at the historic Indianapolis Oval, piloting Tony Stewart's #14, in SHR's last appearance at the Brickyard 400 will go down as a historic moment in the sport.
