NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon recently expressed his emotions about the devastating wildfires that have spread across Southern California. This destructive wildfire has savaged over 10,000 acres of land and destroyed thousands of homes, forcing people to evacuate.
In a post on X, former Hendrick Motorsports driver and the current Vice Chairman Gordon, who hails from Vallejo, California, paid his respect to the families who have lost their homes and shared his sincere thoughts on the first-responders tirelessly working to manage the crisis in the greater Los Angeles area.
On behalf of the Rick Hendrick-owner organization, the four-time Cup Series champion said:
"As we are all far too familiar right now, wildfires are devastating communities across Southern California. Families have lost their homes. Lives have been lost. First responders are risking their lives. And so many people are enduring unimaginable hardship. I want to thank everyone who's working tirelessly to control this unthinkable event. From the firefighters on the front lines to the countless volunteers opening their hearts and their homes to those in need. If you are able, please consider donating or volunteering to support wildfire recovery efforts. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference in helping to rebuild these communities."
"I was born and raised in California and so it will always be close to my heart. And I know its people are incredibly resilient. Let's come together to make an impact. On behalf of all my teammates at Hendrick Motorsports, please stay safe and thank you for your support," Jeff Gordon added.
HMS has also shared a link to an international relief fund to donate and support the wildfire extinguishing efforts.
Apart from that, a family member of the NASCAR community has also stepped up in a heroic effort to aid and support the ground crews fighting the wildfires in California.
NASCAR driver Garrett Smithley shares an update on his father joining hands with relief efforts
Garrett Smithley, the full-time Xfinity Series driver for SS-Green Light Racing, shared a post updating followers on his father's heroic efforts to aid the ground crews in the extinguishing efforts.
In a post on X, the #14 Chevy driver Smithley reported that his father, RK Smithley, an ex-serviceman would be flying to California to support the the areas affected by the devastating wildfires. He wrote:
"Dad is heading to Cali right now with @10Tanker Tanker 914 is flying now, he should be on scene tomorrow morning with tanker 912. Hopefully they will give the ground crews some much needed support to fight these awful fires."
So far, reports suggest that at least 10 people have lost their lives and over 180,000 people have had to evacuate their homes because of the wildfire fueled by dry-windy weather conditions in the state of California.
