Joe Gibbs Racing has revealed a fragment of memorabilia from Martin Truex Jr.’s last race as a full-time NASCAR driver. The race, which took place at Phoenix Raceway on November 10, was also the last race of the 2024 season, his fifth with the No. 19 JGR team.
The keepsake is a signed pair of square, glass display boxes that contain rubber from Truex Jr.’s Toyota Camry, which he drove that day. Notably, he finished the race 17th, his 22nd top-20 finish of the year.
Sharing the news of the exclusive giveaway through an Instagram story, Joe Gibbs Racing wrote:
“YOU DONT WANT TO MISS THIS!!!”
Martin Truex Jr. is one of the biggest advocates of NASCAR in the NextGen era. However, his rise in NASCAR began with a victory at Richmond Raceway in 2019, way before the new car came out.
As of today, Truex Jr. has 34 wins in the NASCAR Cup Series. His most recent win came at Dover Motor Speedway during the 2023 campaign, which also snapped a 54-race winless streak for the New Jersey native. That year, he won the season-opening Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum in Los Angeles as well.
Truex Jr. arguably shone brighter in the Xfinity Series. Although he did win more races in the Cup Series, his tally of championships at the Xfinity level (2004, 2005) is more than that in the Cup Series.
The veteran racer will make a one-off appearance in this year’s Daytona 500, the official season-opening race of the Cup Series since 1982. Fans can watch Truex Jr. in action on Fox from 2:30 pm ET onwards. Furthermore, live radio updates will be available on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
“Happy. Thankful. Proud”- Martin Truex Jr. looks back at his NASCAR career
When a 24-year-old Martin Truex Jr. signed a part-time deal with Dale Earnhardt Inc. back in 2004, little did he know that he would win three NASCAR championships by the time he was 37. Reflecting on his career during an interview with journalist Bob Pockrass, Truex Jr. said,
“Happy. Thankful. Proud. Just the things we've been able to do. If you would have told me after my first couple years in the Cup Series that I would win 30-some races and a championship and had three runner-ups and just be around and be a solid, front-running driver for this long, I would be very excited about that.”
Truex Jr. is done hustling all year long but he’s not done racing. The 44-year-old speedster intends to run more Cup and Xfinity Series races in 2025.
“It'll be nice to just not have my schedule printed out for me a year in advance. That's the biggest thing, really, is just having some time to myself to do what I want and still getting to race some, too. So just doing things on my own terms,” Martin Truex Jr. added.
Martin Truex Jr. will make his entry in this year’s Daytona 500 under the banner of Tricon Garage, a Craftsman Truck Series team with help from Joe Gibbs Racing. As per reports, he will pair with his old crew chief Cole Pearn for his Daytona outing.
