Joey Logano's crew chief Paul Wolfe feels that he and Team Penske have an equal chance to win a race in the upcoming race of the Cup Series at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He stated that the short-track package would allow the #22 car to pull up to victory lane on the 1.058-mile circuit.
Logano is currently the only Team Penske driver who has yet to win a race this season. Although his position in the standings is close to the top sixteen, the lack of a victory throughout the season might turn out to be a barricade for his Playoffs qualification.
Paul Wolfe, however, feels like they have a good chance to secure a win at the upcoming race. He stated that the tires have become rather stable, helping them choose a better pit strategy, which might ultimately assist them score a win.
"Those things [new modifications in NASCAR] can really affect your setup obviously quite a bit. So with that being such a big factor, yeah I think as we've seen the consistency now on this tire for us and what we've been able to do in the past at New Hampshire. Like I said, I'm excited to get to the track. I think we've got as good a shot as anybody to get to victory lane this weekend," Wolfe told Auto Racing Daily (at 6:28).
He also discussed Joey Logano's track package for short tracks such as Iowa and New Hampshire.
"Obviously, the loads, as we talk about our short track package and the things that have worked for the 22 team and Team Penske on the short tracks. You're making small changes because you know Iowa to New Hampshire, the loading the size of the tracks a little different," Wolfe said.
Ryan Blaney's crew chief Jonathan Hassler on pushing Joey Logano into the Playoffs
Although lacking a race win, Joey Logano has placed himself in 15th place in the standings currently. He has led 216 laps this season so far and has a stage win which has helped him retain this position. The most important aspect, however, is still a race win.
Talking on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Ryan Blaney's crew chief Jonathan Hassler revealed that the team is aiming to get Logano into the Playoffs, and pushing for a race win.
"I think if you look at our whole organization top to bottom, we'll get wins with three of our different cars. I'll be at not a points win with a 22 (Joey Logano), but certainly a goal of ours to get him into the playoffs. And that's all happened really over the last couple of months, month and a half or so," Hassler said.
