Two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Joey Logano, with the help of Ford, is stepping up to help families affected by Hurricane Helene in western North Carolina.
Hurricane Helene was one of the deadliest storms to hit the mainland since 2005. It affected many parts of the Southeastern US, including Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia, and the Carolinas. The storm caused severe landslides, flooding, and damage to roads, power, and communication in western NC.
In a recent video on X, Logano shared that he was heading to NC with two Ford trucks filled with generators and chainsaws to help those in need.
"We are headed up to the North Carolina mountains. We got two Ford trucks loaded up. We got generators loaded up to the fair. We got some chainsaws ready to go to deliver to some of the people up there doing some good work," Logano said.
The Team Penske driver is also working with faith-based non-profit group Convoy of Hope and helping with finding a long-term solution for families struggling after the storm.
"We're gonna go visit what Convoy of Hope is doing. We're gonna go visit some local churches. We're gonna go try to put together a plan on some long-term help for these families up there and see what we can do. So we'll keep you updated as we go," he added.
Joey Logano's foundation also pledged $250,000 to support the relief efforts earlier this month.
Talladega crash affects Joey Logano's playoff chances
Last weekend at Talladega was full of chaos for Joey Logano's No. 22 Ford and many others. Brad Keselowski’s Ford got pushed from behind, which caused a chain reaction and led to a multi-car crash. While some blamed Keselowski, Joey Logano said it was the result of aggressive racing at Talladega.
"Everyone gets more aggressive at the end of the races. The No. 2 got out there a little bit more than what he has been...It was not his fault, it was not Brad’s fault. It was not anybody’s fault. Just a product of racing. Everyone gets more and more aggressive as the laps wind down. It happens,” Logano said after the race (via Sportsnaut).
The historic crash involving 28 cars near the end of the race left Logano out of the playoff picture along with Daniel Suarez, Austin Cindric, and Chase Briscoe. He now ranks ninth in the NASCAR Cup Series with 3048 points after 31 races (13 points below the cut-line). He has two wins and five top-five finishes this season.
The next race in the playoffs is the Bank of America ROVAL 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 13, 2024. Joey Logano's best finish in the last six races at the Charlotte road course was second in 2020.
