The Legacy Motor club driver and his wife have been married since October 2020, and have two daughters, Aspen Palmer Nemechek, born in 2021, and Penelope James Nemechek, born in 2023.

Son of NASCAR veteran, Joe Nemechek, John Hunter Nemechek got his start in the sport in the Craftsman Truck Series at the age of 16. Nemechek ran his first full season in the Truck Series in 2016, and since then he has accumulated 13 wins and a highest finish of 3rd in the points standings during the 2021 season with Kyle Busch Motorsports.

John Hunter made his full-time season debut in the Xfinity series in 2019 with GMS Racing and was also brought in as a substitute in Front Row Motorsports' driver lineup in the Cup Series for the last three races of the season. Replacing an injured Matt Tifft in 2019 put Nemechek in contention for the 2020 Sunoco Rookie of the Year. During his time in the Xfinity Series, he accumulated 11 wins, 39 Top 5s, and 66 Top 10s.

After a full-time year in the Cup Series with FRM, he returned to the Truck and Xfinity series', until 2024, where John Hunter Nemechek made his comeback to the top-tier NASCAR series with LMC, driving in their #42 car this past season. He drives alongside teammates Erik Jones and Jimmie Johnson.
