Nemechek is a second-generation NASCAR driver. He is the son of former Xfinity Series champion Joe. Apart from piloting the #42 Toyota in the Cup Series, Nemechek competes part-time for Joe Gibbs Racing and Sam Hunt Racing. He previously drove for Front Row Motorsports in the 2020 season before returning full-time for Jimmie Johnson-owned Legacy Motor Club.

#42 Nemechek recently bounced back with a top-ten finish at the 18th Cup Series race at the damped New Hampshire Motor Speedway on June 23.

John Hunter Nemechek capitalized on rain-delayed race in Loudon

Legacy Motor Club driver John Hunter Nemechek started the USA Today 301 race at P28 and crossed the checkered flag in eighth place. The North Carolina native entered the race with only two top-10 finishes in the Cup Series season. He last finished sixth at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 17.

At the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, NASCAR officials red-flagged the race due to rain with 82 laps to go. Nemechek bounced back from two laps down after the officials restarted the race with wet-weather tires.

In a post-race interview, the 27-year-old Nemechek talked about his hard-fought day at Loudon. He said (via NASCAR):

"I was sitting on the top of the box with [crew chief] Ben [Beshore] praying that we were going to be able to go back racing, We were awful the first run of the race, and just worked on it all day."
"These guys gave it all they had. A lot of adjustments throughout the day. Thank you to Dollar Tree, Family Dollar for all that they do for us here at Legacy Motor Club and Toyota, TRD. I'll take eighth after the day we had. I think we were stuck in 31st or 32nd pretty much all day, so solid finish for us and something that we needed. Hopefully, we can build some momentum off of this," Nemechek added.

Nemechek is now gearing up for the Ally 400 event at Nashville Superspeedway on June 30. He currently sits at P27 in the overall Cup Series standings with 276 points to his name.
