Amidst the speculation surrounding his future in the NASCAR Cup Series, Josh Berry recently indicated that he is confident he will return for his sophomore season in the Cup Series next year.
Tony Stewart and Gene Haas' decision to shut down Stewart-Haas Racing at the end of the season has been the biggest news of the silly season. As the 2024 season progresses, the SHR drivers are auditioning for their future in NASCAR.
Josh Berry recently mentioned that he is feeling more relieved about his future in the sport than he was a couple of weeks ago. Berry's statement indicates that he has some kind of contract lined up, but he didn't provide any details about his future team.
"I feel way better now than I did maybe a couple weeks ago." he said in a recent interview with SiriusXM NASCAR radio.
In his rookie NASCAR season, filling in the shoes of Kevin Harvick, Josh Berry has shown flashes of speed, having excelled at short tracks in the first half of the season. After 17 rounds, he sits 21st in the driver's standings with one top-five and five top-10 finishes.
Unlike Chase Briscoe, who is strongly linked to replace Martin Truex Jr. at Joe Gibbs Racing, there are no concrete reports regarding where Berry will land next season. There are plenty of open seats available, given that SHR is selling three of its charters to Cup organizations.
Gene Haas recently announced that he will retain the fourth charter for the Haas Factory team next season. Although the team owner has not confirmed the driver roster or the team partners, it could be one of the potential landing spots for Josh Berry and the rest of the SHR driver roster.
Josh Berry predicts "good days" ahead for the #4 SHR team
Berry, the #4 Stewart Haas Racing Ford driver, had a strong outing at Iowa Speedway, showcasing his short-track prowess. He fetched a 7th-place result, leading 32 laps in the race.
Josh Berry emphasized that the #4 SHR team is capable of achieving such results. He added that the team has been showing strong pace in recent weeks and believes that better days lie ahead for them.
"Tonight is obviously what we're capable of. The reality of it is, we're all racing for our jobs, we are. For me, I don't know what else I can do besides win a race to prove I can race at this level. I mean, we're running up front, we're running some really good things, we've shown a lot of potential, we're qualifying better, we're racing better. I think that there's a lot of good days coming for the #4 team," he told Frontstretch post-race.
Working with veteran crew chief Rodney Childers, Josh Berry has shown improvement in his rookie campaign. He trails his SHR teammate Chase Briscoe by 56 points in the driver's standings.
