Josh Berry finished in 7th place at Iowa, after which he claimed that the #4 team is in looking at good days to come. Berry, who got his first Cup break with Stewart Haas Racing at the start of this season, is on the hunt for a new job for next year with SHR having announced their NASCAR exit at the end of 2024.
Berry spoke about the prospect with Frontstretch in a post-race interview, relating it to his finish and hinting at what is to come in the next few races.
"Tonight is obviously what we're capable of. The reality of it is, we're all racing for our jobs, we are. For me, I don't know what else I can do besides win a race to prove I can race at this level. I mean, we're running up front, we're running some really good things, we've shown a lot of potential, we're qualifying better, we're racing better. I think that there's a lot of good days coming for the #4 team," Berry said.
Josh Berry also claimed in a press release that they scored stage points and had great restarts in the race. It was only the last restart that didn't go their way as per the #4 driver.
He said that they lost "a little bit of track position" after which they failed to recover. But all in all, Josh Berry claimed, he is really proud of his team for doing "a great job," suggesting they will "keep digging" to get better.
Rodney Childers reflects on Josh Berry's 7th place finish at Iowa
Legendary crew chief Rodney Childers who is the leader of the #4 car spoke about his driver's positive result after the race at Iowa. He claimed that everything about the race went the way they wanted it to.
Childers said that they had a fast car and good restarts, and with Berry doing a great job, they checked a lot of boxes. While speaking to Frontstretch, the crew chief further pointed to the progress the #4 team has made recently despite the results not reflecting it.
"You know you got to crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run. And we’ve started to do that. I know the last two weeks didn’t really show that. But if you look before that, we’ve got better and better every week and had good runs and feel good about what we’re doing. A lot of adversity on top of that, so it’s interesting looking for a job all week and still coming and running like this," Childers said. [01:50]
Childers praised Josh Berry for "driving his butt off," claiming that if he hasn't proven he belongs in the Cup with his Iowa result, then "something's wrong." He furthered his case for Josh Berry by pointing to Darlington, Richmond and now Iowa, which prove that the #4 driver is "doing a really good job."
