Former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace shared a congratulatory message on social media after Kyle Larson won the Outlaw Winged at the 40th Tulsa Shootout this Saturday.
Larson earned the Golden Driller trophy during the final race at the Tulsa Expo Raceway. The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion traveled to Oklahoma after winning the High Limit Racing event in Australia to compete in the micro sprint event, Tulsa Shootout, which started on December 31st.
Kenny Wallace reposted a video of the final laps of the race on X and congratulated Larson.
"Great race. Congratulations @KyleLarsonRacin🏁," he wrote.
Larson had previously won the Silver Driller at the 25th Tulsa Shootout. During Saturday's race, he took the lead early when TJ Smith, who won the Golden Driller in 2022, made a mistake. Smith and Emerson Axsom tried to catch him but Larson kept his position to win.
"Thankfully, with TJ [Smith] missing the bottom on the first lap, I was able to get by and kind of plug away. I thought I slipped too much early, so I went to the top and the caution came out and I could see Owen telling me to get back to the bottom, so I didn't really know what to do," Larson said (via Toby Christie).
Larson returned to Tulsa after 15 years with his son, Owen who competed in the Junior Sprints this year. However, Kyle Busch’s son, Brexton took home the Golden Driller in the Junior Sprints category. Kenny Wallace is quite active on social media and recently reacted to Christopher Bell and Larson's showdown at the Tulsa Non-Wing Outlaw final as well.
"Holy Moly" - Kenny Wallace on Bell vs Larson at Tulsa's Non-Wing Outlaw final
Christopher Bell, who ran his last dirt race in 2022, won the Non-Wing Outlaw main event at the 40th Tulsa Shootout this Saturday.
Bell took the lead on Lap 35 but Steven Snyder moved up from the back. However, he hit the wall after a tire problem and Bell got the lead back. A caution later let Larson catch up but Bell beat him in a photo finish. Kenny Wallace talked about the exciting race on X and wrote:
"HOLY MOLY 😳 WHAT A RACE! Bell vs Larson 🏁"
Oklahoma native Bell won the Winged Outlaw championship at Tulsa in 2018 and talked about winning another in an interview after the race.
"Oh my gosh man, I live for these moments. Driving these race cars, especially at Tulsa, there is nothing else like it. Maybe after today Kyle will actually like micros and wanna come back," Bell said [via sportsnaut].
Bell is a three-time Chili Bowl champion and returned to the micro sprint racing event after Joe Gibbs Racing allowed its drivers to compete in non-NASCAR races last year.
