Kevin Harvick's focus has shifted to helping the Stewart-Haas Racing drivers get a seat in the next season. After the Sonoma race, NBC took over the broadcasting duties, marking the end of Harvick's stint with FOX. As a result, the retired NASCAR legend has returned to working for the clients of his celebrity marketing agency, KHI.
Last year, the #4 Ford driver announced his retirement from the sport and Josh Berry filled in for the former this year. However, in a tragic turnaround of events, the North Carolina-based outfit has declared the current season as their final one. Though Gene Haas will individually own a single Cup car team and two Xfinity cars under the Haas Factory Team banner, the lineup isn't decided yet.
Because of the shutdown news, Noah Gragson, Josh Berry, Ryan Preece, Chase Briscoe, Riley Herbst, and Cole Custer are without a garage for their future in the sport, following which Kevin Harvick has come forward to help two of his clients secure their future.
Kevin Harvick Inc. has several athletes on their roster and the LLC helps them get contracts, endorsements, and career management, among other services. Now that the 2014 Cup Series champ is free from his broadcasting duties, he will be actively involved in KHI to find new homes for the SHR drivers linked to his firm, Josh Berry, Ryan Preece, and Riley Herbst.
So far, none of them have secured a deal with another team, but Rodney Childers' driver Josh Berry is reportedly in talks with Wood Brothers Racing for taming their high-octane car next year. Meanwhile, Ryan Preece and Xfinity Series driver Herbst's update is yet to surface.
Kevin Harvick outlined the "many things" on the racetrack keeping him rooted to the cause.
"I have so many things going on at the racetrack and that's the big difference between what we do and what a lot of other guys have done in the past. I can't just disappear and go on vacation the whole time because we have so many other business aspects that go with the management company and bleed right into the drivers," Harvick's message read via Adam Stern on X.
Kevin Harvick's replacement driver Josh Berry is at high odds of locking a deal with Wood Brothers Racing
Wood Brothers Racing was formed in 1950 and since then, it has been home to several dominant NASCAR drivers like AJ Foyt, Kyle Petty, Ryan Blaney, and David Pearson, to name a few.
After parting ways with Matt DiBenedetto in 2021, the team announced Harrison Burton as the driver for the #21 Ford for the 2022 season. However, the 23-year-old hasn't been able to display promising performances so far. Though he exhibited glimpses of his race prowess, the majority of his outings have ended on a poor note.
Burton collected a solitary top-5 and two top-10s in his first year with the team. The next season, he collected zero top-5s and two top-10s. This season, the North Carolina native has so far raked in a single top-10 from his 10th-place finish at the Talladega Superspeedway. Accordingly, Bob Pockrass felt the #21 driver's odds of contract extension are "unlikely."
With that, Kevin Harvick Inc.'s Josh Berry, with the 2014 Cup championship-winning crew chief, Rodney Childers could be a lucrative combination for Wood Brothers Racing to lift themselves from poor showdown week after week.
