Former NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick joined more than 20 drivers in a test session ahead of the zMAX CARS Tour doubleheader next month. The test session took place at the North Wilkesboro Speedway and lasted for five hours.
The 2007 Dayton 500 winner has enjoyed a celebrated NASCAR career. Harvick, the 2014 Cup Series champion, also claimed the 2020 regular season title and is also a two-time Busch Series (now Xfinity) champion.
In his NASCAR career spanning 800 races, Harvick has secured 60 victories, including wins at all the crown jewel events.
Harvick is also the co-owner of the zMAX CARS Tour and is currently piloting the #62 entry for Kevin Harvick Inc. Ahead of the Reverend 100 Pro Late Model and Window World 125 Late Model Stock Car races next month, he took part in a test session at the North Wilkesboro Speedway. Following the session, Harvick shared his thoughts on the cars in the Late Model Stock division.
“From the driver's standpoint, for me, it's really about getting used to these cars. I raced the car one time here and that was the only time I've ever raced the car in the Late Model Stock division. So I think just getting used to the grip level and the yawl and everything that goes with a Late Model Stock is really the biggest thing," he said (via FloRacing).
Kevin Harvick retired from the Cup Series at the end of the 2023 season and signed up with Fox Sports as an analyst. Before his departure from NASCAR, Harvick piloted the #4 Ford Mustang for the Tony Stewart-led Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR). He was replaced by Josh Berry in the 2024 season, who is set to join Wood Brothers Racing next year, following the closure of SHR.
Kevin Harvick shares views on NASCAR's EV Racing future
NASCAR has primarily focused on combustion engines for the cars that compete across their divisions. With the changing environmental landscape, ABB and NASCAR joined hands to develop an EV race car with the intention of reducing their carbon footprint.
NASCAR recently unveiled the EV prototype and described the shape as “a generic Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) body made of sustainable flax-based composite.”
Kevin Harvick discussed the possibilities of EVs entering the NASCAR landscape in an episode of the Harvick's Happy Hour podcast. He said
"The EVs aren't doing as well as they were when this project started, I think it's great to see that you have something, but I think that NASCAR was so far down the line with this EV project,"
"There is no future for NASCAR electric vehicle racing. If it does not make noise and smell like it's burning gas, there is no freaking way." Harvick added.
