NASCAR veteran Kevin Harvick hosted New Orleans Saints running back, Alvin Kamara in an episode of Harvick's podcast. Kamara, during the podcast, discussed the idea of ownership in NASCAR like NBA legend Michael Jordan, who co-owns 23XI Racing.
Apart from having a keen interest in high-octane stock-car racing, the 2017 NFL Rookie of the Year Kamara extended his involvement by sponsoring a car for part-time Xfinity driver Ryan Vargas in 2021. The 28-year-old narrated his encounter with Vargas on how he dipped his hands in the NASCAR side of business.
In the recent episode of the "Kevin Harvick's Happy Hour" podcast, Kamara said (at 26:03):
"So I hit up Ryan and his team, and they were open to the idea. They were like, ‘Well, what do you want to do?’ I was like, ‘Well, what can I do? You tell me.’ So I ended up sponsoring the car. Got the whole car. I had a juice company at the time, and I wrapped it with the juice company. Put my logo on the car.
It was just cool to step into that business side, because I don’t know what you guys go through racing throughout the week...and I was grateful with that opportunity with Ryan, because it kind of sparked my interest." Kamara added.
Moreover, when the podcast's co-host, Mamba Smith asked if the NFL star would be interested in having ownership of any kind, running back Kamara replied by saying:
"So to answer your question, it’s not a no, but it’s just the right timing and the right opportunity, and I probably would be interested, because I think there’s a lot of room for growth in this sport, and if I could be involved, in a larger capacity than I am right now, I’d be interested."
Kevin Harvick and Alvin Kamara picked their favorites for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Championship
In the aforementioned podcast, co-host Kaitlyn Vincie ended the conversation by asking Kamara and Harvick their favorites as NASCAR gets closer to the 2024 playoffs.
"I think this is the year for Denny (Hamlin)," Former SHR driver Harvick predicted.
In his illustrious career spanning over 20 years, Joe Gibbs Racing driver Hamlin amassed 54 wins. However, he has yet to claim his first Championship title.
Meanwhile, Kevin Harvick chose Hamlin's Hendrick Motorsports' arch-rival for the 2024 championship title.
"I think Denny’s driving well. … I’ll say Kyle (Larson). You can put it on the record." Kamara said (at 29:40).
Both Larson and Hamlin are among the popular choices for the NASCAR community, their stats for the 2024 Cup season justify the same. As drivers gear up for the Pocono Raceway schedule, #5 Larson sits at the top of the driver's points table, and #11 Hamlin is 42 points behind him on the fourth spot.
