Ryan Blaney recently shared his take on 'a crazy statistic' heading into the New Hampshire race on Sunday. The stat in question is of the number of races Chevrolet has won at NHMS since 2012.
In the 17 races at NHMS since 2012, Chevrolet has won only 1 race. The winners of the other 16 races came from either Toyota or Ford. The last time a Chevy driver won at NHMS was Kevin Harvick in 2016.
This stat was presented to Ryan Blaney during a press conference on Saturday as a reporter wondered if there are tracks that favor a particular manufacturer over the other or if it was simply a 'crazy stat.'
“That is a crazy stat. I didn’t know that. I don’t really know if tracks necessarily form well with a manufacturer or anything like that. I think that’s just kind of a coincidental thing. I look at Gibbs, I look at Penske, we’ve both been really good here. Stewart-Haas have been good here for a number of years. You say that and there might be a Chevy in victory lane, you never know. I mean, it’s just one of those funny things that might happen. I don’t think it’s a manufacturer thing. I think it’s just kind of coincidence of what teams figure some things out here and what manufacturer they are," Ryan Blaney said [at 9:41].
While the defending Cup champion initially dubbed the stat "crazy", he later expressed that he hoped to add to it.
Could Ryan Blaney get back-to-back wins for the first time since 2021?
The Team Penske #12 driver registered his first win of the season last week at Iowa in front of a sold-out crowd, which also had his friends and family. Blaney took the checkered flag and booked his spot in the playoffs. In a season where he's had four finishes inside the top 5, Blaney has dealt with a considerable amount of bad luck as well.
But the fact that he got his first win and got it in front of his family and friends, Blaney was jubilant after the race.
"What a cool way to win here. This place means a lot to me and means a lot to my mom (Lisa, from Chariton, Iowa). We had a lot of people here tonight cheering us on, so they willed us to that one," he said (via Iowa Speedway).
A week from his win at Iowa, Ryan Blaney is all set to start in 2nd place for the race at New Hampshire. He would undoubtedly be eyeing his second win of the season.
But considering he has won back-to-back races only one other time in his Cup career so far, (Michigan and Daytona in 2021) Ryan Blaney's bid to follow up corn with lobster could turn out to be an interesting one.
