Richard Childress Racing driver Kyle Busch turned nostalgic while reacting to his racing clip from the Phoenix weekend in 2011. He claimed that such close racing is not witnessed in the current era.
The first weekend at Phoenix in 2011, the second race of the season, was a dominant one for Busch in all three NASCAR series. He won the Truck Series race, followed by another pole to win in the Xfinity (then called the Nationwide) Series, and finished second in the Cup Series.
Although Kyle Busch put his Joe Gibbs Racing #18 Toyota dominantly out in the field during the Nationwide race, Carl Edwards gave him quite a challenge heading into the final laps. The two cars battled each other closely for the win. This was a hair-raising battle for the spectators as both drivers put themselves on the edge.
Reacting to this clip on X (formerly Twitter), Busch reminisced about the racing from that time, saying this is not possible in the current generation. He wrote,
"You don't see much racing like this anymore,"
Busch went on to win eight races in the Xfinity Series that season, beginning in Phoenix. Meanwhile, he won six races in the Truck Series and another four in the Cup Series. He finished the season in 12th place in the latter.
"Toughest year of my career" - Kyle Busch hoping to come back stronger in 2025 with RCR
Busch has been racing with Richard Childress Racing since the 2023 season. In his first season, he looked competitive and managed to pull in three victories and a 14th-place finish in the standings with 2232 points. However, his 2024 campaign lacked any signs of competitiveness.
He did not manage to win any races and was not consistent either, dropping to the back of the grid regularly in the races. His average finish was 18.31 during the season. However, he hopes to return to the 2025 season stronger as he reviewed his 2024 stint.
Busch wrote on X,
"Arguably the toughest year of my career. Full of trials, n heartbreaks. I know my RCR guys r gonna get after it this winter n we’ll come back stronger nxt season. Grateful for all of our partners, helping us do what we love. Thx Rowdy Nation for sticking w me. Y’all r the best.💯"
Kyle Busch finished the season in 20th place with just 766 points in his bag, his worst finish since he started racing on a full-time schedule in the series.
At the same time, he also took part in five Truck Series races with Spire Motorsports. Although he was only a part-time driver and wasn't registered in the standings, he managed to pull in two victories.
