Bob Pockrass joined Kevin Harvick in a conversation and talked about the meme that arose during the Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. altercation after the 2024 All-Star race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Moreover, the Fox Sports journalist revisited how he became a meme soon after the two Cup Series drivers pounced on each other.
The on-track incident on the first lap of the 2024 All-Star race in May was the root cause for the brawl between the Richard Childress and JTG Daugherty Racing driver. The two-time Cup Series champion Busch made contact with the #47 Chevy driver Stenhouse Jr. which ended the latter's day prematurely. As a result, the 37-year-old waited the whole race to discuss the incident which inevitably turned into a big fight. Furthermore, the NASCAR reporter Pockrass was a forced victim caught while covering their heated argument.
In the latest episode of Harvick's Happy Hour podcast, Pockrass revealed how he got involved in the fight that birthed a meme of his face after the RCR driver was pushed on him. Moreover, Pockrass mentioned that he got an invitation from #47 Stenhouse Jr. He said:
"We're standing there and they're just kind of talking. I'm just going to see the room right away. And then, you know, we could tell there's fireworks going off in the background and all of a sudden Ricky just, he just swung." [0:30]
Pockrass then talked about how his iconic picture was captured amid the scuffle. He continued:
"And Fox got me this little camera and it's on a swivel because like you can hit a button so that it comes to selfie mode. And Kyle Busch gets thrown back into me and it spins into me and catches my face. I guess at the perfect moment... I didn't have a time to even look at it. So I just sent them what I had. So I had no clue what was on there until my face was screenshot and a meme had been made." [0:57]
The NASCAR community found humor amid this intense fight between the drivers and made hilarious memes throughout social media. Moreover, a NASCAR driver presented Pockrass with a token of remembrance for the Busch-Stenhouse Jr. scuffle.
