Kyle Busch voices discomfort in RCR's No. 8 as playoff chances diminish

Richard Childress Racing driver Kyle Busch recently discussed his state in the #8 Chevy Camaro, ahead of the Cup Series race at Pocono. It appears that Busch is still not satisfied with the car after fixing the reported steering issue during the practice session.

Two-time Cup Series champion is going through the worst season of his career in over 20 years. So far in the 2024 NASCAR campaign, Rowdy Busch has accumulated only two top-fives and has faced four DNFs. Busch's chances of making the playoff cutline are diminishing after continued struggles with his #8 Chevy Camaro, as teams get closer to playoff rounds.

In a recent interview with Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass, 39-year-old Busch addressed the issue he faced with his car during the practice and said:

"There was something wrong with the bearing down at the bottom of the firewall so they(RCR) got it straightened up."

Pockrass then asked the #8 Chevy driver about the state of the car after rectifying the problem. To this, Busch replied:

"Steering felt normal and [the rest of the car feel] not very good."

Here's the response from Kyle Busch ahead of the Great American Getaway 400:

"Kyle Busch said yesterday after qualifying that the team had fixed the steering issue. So how much did that help the car? You can gauge from his response," Pockrass wrote.

After a qualifying time of 53.756 seconds at 'The Trick Triangle', Busch would start at P24 on the grid. With only six races left in the regular season, the #8 driver is on the verge of losing the opportunity to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since his full-time debut in 2005.

A look into Kyle Busch's stint with Richard Childress Racing

Kyle Busch is in his second full-time season with Richard Childress' outfit. After his move to RCR, the Las Vegas native partnered with crew chief Randall Burnett.

Burnett was the crew chief for 2019 Xfinity champion Tyler Reddick. Since the arrival of Busch to RCR, Burnett joined the most winningest NASCAR driver Busch.

Last season, the duo claimed three victories and comfortably booked their spot in the 2023 NASCAR playoffs, but the momentum has transitioned well for the current NASCAR campaign.

With 20 starts this season, Busch is at P17 in the points standings with two top-5 and six top-10s. He also needs to gather 98 points or a win in the remaining regular season races for a chance to stand above the playoff cutline.
