2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson recently responded to criticism regarding the financial state of his Sprint Car team, the #57 Paul Silva team. His response was quite straightforward and entertaining.

After taking a short trip to Italy, Larson returned to racing action during the second week of the Olympic break and scored three Sprint Car victories in four nights. His latest win came at the Southern Iowa Speedway on Monday (August 5), and a day later he was forced to respond to criticism about his team's budgetary practices.

The exchange of words on X (formerly Twitter) began when Motor Racing Network’s lead turn announcer Dave Moody shared the highlights of Larson’s Sprint car win at Southern Iowa with a caption that read:

“Let's just be clear. @KyleLarsonRacin could win in a shopping cart.”

Afterwards, a fan commented to Moody, saying:

“When you’re able to spend the kind of money he has, I would sure hope so.”

That’s when Hendrick Motorsports Kyle Larson jumped into the conversation. Responding to the fan's comment, Larson said that the #57 Sprint Car team owner Paul Silva is not operating on a limitless budget and shared an old video of him. In the video, Silva is looking for viable wing tree parts for the #57 car from a dumpster.

On his X account, Larson wrote:

“Good afternoon @RobsSportsShow. Heres a glimpse into our budget. This is car owner @Paul_Silva57 dumpster diving for parts to save a tiny bit of money. And oh btw we won on another teams used tires the last 3 races”

In addition to Larson’s Front Row Challenge win on Monday, he swept the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Ironman 55 weekend at I-55 Raceway.

Kyle Larson is eyeing a NASCAR Cup Series regular-season championship

The #5 Hendrick Motorsports driver has been in great form this season. Larson locked his berth for the playoffs with a win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

With an average finish of 13.048 in 22 races this season so far, Larson has scored four wins, nine top-fives, and 11 top-10 finishes.

Due to his consistent performance this season, Kyle Larson is in a strong position to win his second NASCAR Cup Series regular season title. With four races remaining in the regular season, he is leading the Cup Series points table with 10 points ahead of his teammate Chase Elliott.

Catch Kyle Larson in action at the Richmond Raceway on Sunday (August 11) at 6 pm ET.
