You must be curious to know about what NASCAR’s top-tier drivers eat before climbing into a race car that keeps them fuelled for several hours of intense racing.

NASCAR drivers often have specific pre-race meal preferences to ensure they have the right balance of energy and nutrition, and a proper nutrition meal before the race is essential for them to perform their best on the race track.

NASCAR stock car racing or any other motorsports series is as about endurance as it is speed, especially when the temperature inside a car hits between 100 degrees to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. So, what drivers eat in their pre-race meal to keep themselves energetic?

On Instagram, Chat Us Up shared a video where they asked several drivers like Kyle Larson, Bubba Wallace and several others about their food preferences before racing. Five drivers of NASCAR Cup Series shared their favorite pre-race meal below.

Five NASCAR drivers's favorite pre-race meal

#5 Michael McDowell

The 2021 Daytona 500 winner McDowell, who drives the Ford for Front Row Motorsports, focuses on a balanced and nutritious pre-race meal to ensure he has stamina and stays hydrated while racing.

He prefers eating sweet potatoes along with protein. Sweet potatoes are rich in fiber and antioxidants and contain essential vitamins and minerals.

#4 Bubba Wallace

23XI Racing driver prefers eating barbecue chicken. This meal is a good source of lean protein and is lower in fat than other meats.

If barbecue chicken is grilled without added saturated fats, it can have many health benefits. Barbecue chicken improves heart health, boosts the immune system and helps with weight management.

#3 Denny Hamlin

Joe Gibbs Racing driver and 23XI Racing owner, Hamlin, revealed he likes to eat spaghetti or something like pasta that has more fluids. The benefits of spaghetti are that it contains mostly carbohydrates, which are a good source of energy for the body, and it’s also easy to digest.

#2 Joey Logano

Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion prefers mostly lighter and more easily digestible meals, often going for heavy meals.

Joey Logano shared he usually sticks to salmon and broccoli but sometimes enjoys chicken instead of broccoli. Salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids, which help keep the heart healthy and the brain sharp during a race, while broccoli is considered a powerhouse veggie full of vitamins and minerals.

#1 Kyle Larson

The 2021 Cup Series champion, Kyle Larson typically opts for a balanced meal that includes chicken, rice and veggies, which provides a good mix of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals to maintain energy levels and focus during the race. The Hendrick Motorsports star driver avoids eating heavy and fried food.
