Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson created a new NASCAR record at the Bass Pro Shops Night Race at the Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 21. The #5 Chevy driver caught everyone off guard with his exceptional victory margin time on the world's fastest half-mile track.

Larson has become the driver with the largest margin of victory in the NextGen era racing of NASCAR. At the Bristol track, the #5 Chevy driver won the race 7.008 seconds ahead of his teammate Chase Elliott.

Previously, the record was held by Christopher Bell, who achieved the feat in March 2024 at the Phoenix Raceway. Bell had a margin of 5.465 seconds.

However, Kyle Larson has now added two more seconds to the record. He started the race in second place and started dominating the pack in stage 1. The 32-year-old dominated all the stages of the race and won valuable playoff points. He is now at the top of the list with 39 points, followed by Christopher Bell with 24 points.

Kyle Larson breaks the most lead lap record at Bristol

The #5 Chevy driver led 462 out of 500 laps on the world's fastest half-mile track on Saturday. Kyle Larson became the first Hendrick Motorsports driver to lead 462 laps and the second driver after Cale Yarborough's record of 495 laps, made nearly half a century ago.

Overall, the Camaro ZL1 driver is fourth in the most laps-leading standings. Yarborough dominated all the 500 laps in 1973 at Bristol and also made the 495-lap record in 1977. Third on the list is Fred Lorezen, who led 494 laps out of 500 in 1964.

In a post-race interview, Larson shared his experience of racing at Bristol.

"I've had a lot of good cars since I've come to Hendrick Motorsports, so it's tough to say (if that's the best one). But man, that was just great execution all weekend by the team. Practiced good. You've got to qualify good; we did that. Yeah, just had a great car. Thanks to the whole 5 team. They're the best in the business. We dominate a lot of races, but we might not close them all out, so it feels really good to close one out here," Larson said (via motorsport.tv).

This is the fifth win for the #5 Chevy driver this year. This is also Kyle Larson's 12th win since the NextGen cars were introduced, and now he is the driver with the most number of wins in the NextGen racing.
