Kyle Larson recently took a playful swipe at Fox reporter Bob Pockrass over a tweet concerning Larson's plans to undertake double duty again in 2025. Pockrass tweeted about Larson's announcement but intentionally used "Weather" instead of "Whether," prompting Larson's response.
During a press conference at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Larson confirmed that despite this year's setback in simultaneously tackling the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600—events held in different cities on the same day—he is committed to trying again next year. Larson, who became the fifth NASCAR driver to attempt this challenging feat, has increased his fan base following his Indy 500 efforts.
At the Indy 500, Larson was vying for a top-10 finish until a pit road speeding penalty set him back, ultimately finishing 18th. Unfortunately, extreme weather [rainy] conditions this year prevented him from reaching Charlotte in time for the Coca-Cola 600, leading to the need for a NASCAR waiver.
Delving further into the subject, Bob Pockrass made a slight alteration in his phrasing of the topic and posted on X:
"From yesterday: Weather or not? Kyle Larson set for Indy 500, Coca-Cola 600 attempt in 2025 with NASCAR race the priority @NASCARONFOX @INDYCARONFOX"
Kyle Larson playfully responded to Bob Pockrass by resharing the tweet on his feed with a remark:
"Bob, I told you to stop talking about the weather…"
According to Bob Pockrass, both the #5 driver and Hendrick Motorsports are prepared to pursue opportunities next year as well. However, next year, priority will be given to the Coca-Cola 600 in the event of weather complications similar to those experienced this year.
Rick Hendrick clarified the strategy, stating [via Fox Sports]:
"We are going to run the 600. If that means having to cut the race short in Indy, we will, because my commitment to NASCAR is that we're in NASCAR, and that's where we run for the championship. And so, if weather catches us, Tony will get in the car."
This year, May proceeded smoothly for the #5 HMS driver. However, on race day, the Indy 500 was delayed, and Kyle Larson chose to remain in Indianapolis, knowing this decision might compromise his participation in the Charlotte race. He arrived in Charlotte just in time for a rain delay, but he was never able to get into the car and the race was eventually declared official after 249 laps.
Zak Brown, of McLaren Racing, is excited about Kyle Larson's return to the Indy 500.
Recently, Zak Brown expressed his excitement on his official X account, delighted about the #5's participation in the 2025 Indy 500. Brown's post conveyed his anticipation:
"Unfinished business for the Hendrick 1100 with @kylelarsonracin, @TeamHendrick and @hendrickcars. May 2025 can’t come soon enough to get Kyle back on track with Arrow McLaren for the Indy 500"
Meanwhile, Kyle Larson is ready to compete in the Go Bowling at The Glen race at Watkins Glen this coming Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 3:00 PM ET.
