Kyle Larson has commented on his social media post after the Bristol Motor Speedway Race. His post defended Goodyear as fans critiqued the lack of tire wear during the race.
Larson brought his #5 Chevrolet to a dominant victory at Bristol last week. He led 465 of the 500 laps, winning his fourth race this season. The race was criticized by fans on social media, however, as they claimed that there was no tire wear which helped him to maintain speed in front and lead for such a long time.
Amid the criticism, Kyle Larson responded on social media. He stated that Bristol has never been home to significant tire wear and that fans should not put Goodyear under criticism.
Discussing his social media message, Larson recently said that he was "annoyed" because of the harsh criticism of the race. He added that "nobody has the answers" about the difficult overtaking witnessed at Bristol, so people should not be blaming Goodyear for the tires.
"Frustration, I guess," Kyle Larson told SiriusXM. "You know, like you said, I don't really ever get on social media anymore, but no, I was just annoyed, there's so many people in the industry that, they see a car lead 462 laps, and they automatically think it's a terrible race."
"So like, everybody wants to blame Goodyear and everybody's got the answers and whatnot, and it's just nobody has the answers. Goodyear doesn't have the answer. NASCAR doesn't have the answer about their car and why it doesn't run good in traffic. You know, us, the drivers and the teams and engineers, we don't have the answers either."
NASCAR official "baffled" by lack of tire wear as Kyle Larson claims not knowing the solution to the issue
NASCAR's senior vice president of competition Elton Sawyer was taken aback by the lack of tire wear at Bristol. He felt that a short track would provide immense racing action and the drivers would have to depend on vital tire management.
This was actually the case during the spring race at Bristol earlier this season. Tire management was crucial as the wear kept cars at a large risk of losing grip and worsening their race pace.
However, the tables were turned in the second edition of the race last week. Speaking to SiriusXM, Sawyer said:
"We’re baffled, to be perfectly honest. We felt like that we had a recipe there from the spring that gave us what we’re looking for in our short track racing, putting kind of the tire management back in the driver’s hands."
After the dominant victory, Kyle Larson sits atop the standings. His 2024 campaign has been very positive so far as he chases down his second Cup Series championship.
