High Limit Racing sprint car series, co-owned by NASCAR driver Kyle Larson and five-time World of Outlaws champion Brad Sweet, announced former legendary HMS driver Kasey Kahne as a competitor in the 2025 Kubota High Limit Racing season. Former Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne made his debut in the 2004 Daytona 500, where he piloted the #9 Dodge for Evernham Motorsports.
After short stints with Richard Petty Motorsports and Red Bull Racing, Kahne moved to Hendrick Motorsports in 2012 and piloted their #5 Chevrolet for six years of his 15-year career. In those six years, the former HMS driver took six trips to victory lane and secured 35 top-five finishes in 216 races.
On Friday, Kyle Larson-owned High Limits Racing announced Kasey Kahne as a competitor in their 2025 campaign, piloting the #9 entry across 61 events scheduled at 36 different venues (via X):
"Proper news for this @KaseyKahne Friday. 😎 The @KKRDirt boss will be back in the #9 full-time with @Kubota_USA High Limit Racing in 2025!" the post was captioned
Kasey Kahne will be teaming up with co-owner of High Limit Racing Brad Sweet, with both drivers competing for Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR). Fans who cannot attend the events can watch the broadcast of the High Limit Racing series on FloRacing.
Meanwhile, former Cup Series champion Kyle Larson had an impressive 2024 Cup Series season driving the #5 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. He clinched six victories and 15 top-five finishes. Despite his dominant performances, his playoff journey ended in the Round of 8, leaving teammate William Byron as the sole HMS representative in the Championship 4.
"Would like to see it a little bit more fair": Kyle Larson comments on potential NASCAR playoff format change
Despite clinching the 2024 Cup Series championship, Joey Logano’s season has been overshadowed by criticism of his statistics, including an unprecedented average finish of 17.1—the lowest for a NASCAR champion.
This disparity reignited debates about the playoff format, as drivers like Kyle Larson outperformed Logano in season-wide metrics. Following the season, Larson commented on the format's potential revisions.
"I think there's probably ways that could keep it compelling. But also maybe a little bit more fair at the same point. There's no question that the playoffs are really exciting and the format produces excitement, so you don't want to get rid of that, but at the same point, yeah, I mean, you'd like to see it a little bit more fair, and maybe this is the fairest way," he said (0:50).
A similar sight unfolded in 2023 when Joey Logano’s Penske teammate, Ryan Blaney, also faced criticism for his championship win despite posting lackluster season statistics
However, the Cup Series is set to return for the Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium on February 2nd. Catch Kyle Larson in action, exclusively broadcast on FOX, Motor Racing Network, and SiriusXM NASCAR channel
