Kyle Larson's son Owen Larson had a successful stint racing in the Junior Sprint car racing at the Tulsa Shootout at the Tulsa Expo Raceway. He won the race after a three-way overtake during the final laps of the race.
As the NASCAR off-season continues, drivers have been participating in various racing series. Kyle Larson also raced in the sprint car racing at the Tulsa Shootout but fell short of a victory. Meanwhile, his son also raced in the junior series and managed to win. He was running down in third place but then managed to get ahead of his competitors after one of them tangled with a lapped car.
Reviewing his race, he revealed how he was able to make the final move that gifted him the race lead and the victory.
"Once we got on the track one time up to third and then we catch up to the lapped cars and then I looked down at um the 1v car and then he's looking down to the inside and then I gotta make the move because he hit the burn and then slid up and I just braked, lifted off the gas and got to the lead," he said [1:20 onwards].
While his son won the race, Kyle Larson did not achieve the result he might have expected. This could also be because of the hectic schedule he followed prior to the race, which he revealed in an interview.
Kyle Larson reveals his hectic build-up to the Tulsa Shootout
The Hendrick Motorsports driver revealed that he was on a very tight schedule before arriving in Tulsa. He mentioned that he left Perth and arrived in Los Angeles six hours later. Larson was also up all the night before the flag went down, which made it a very hectic affair for the 32-year-old.
"It was really quick. The checkered flag was at 10:00 p.m., probably in Perth, and then my flight was at 5:00 in the morning. Stayed up all night in the casino… only about two hours once we returned to the casino," he said [0:10 onwards].
"Once I got here… straight to the building, ran around, got my pit pass, and ran straight to getting into my Outlaw cars," he added. [via FloRacing on X]
However, the week wasn't all bad for Kyle Larson as he managed to win the High Limit International Sprint Car Race in Perth, Australia. This was the High Limit Series' first international venture, a sprint car series co-founded by Larson and Brad Sweet.
