Kyle Larson crashed against the wall in his High Limit Racing debut in Australia. The NASCAR driver was in the land Down Under to participate in the three-day racing event at Perth Motorplex. This was the sport's first visit to a country outside of the United States.
Larson in the 1K sprint car was leading the race with 22 laps remaining. However, the HMS driver lost control of his car and hit the wall at a high speed. Even though he escaped unscathed, he lost the lead in the race and eventually finished the race in ninth place.
James McFadden of 23 Sprint Car inherited the lead from Larson and went on to hold the lead till the end of the race. California's Cole Macedo finished as the first runner-up, ahead of Australia's Matt Egel.
Larson's brother-in-law, Brad Sweet, finished the race in fourth place. Australia's Jock Goodyer finished in fifth place. A total of 13 drivers finished in the lead lap, out of 24 drivers. The winner of the mega event on Monday will receive a mammoth $100,000 as the prize money.
It is the richest sprint car race in Australia's history. As Kubota High Limit Racing ventured into Western Australia, it will host a three-day race from December 28-30 this year. Kyle Larson and World of Outlaws founded the series in 2023 with the HMS driver's brother-in-law, Brad Sweet.
Kyle Larson and Brad Sweet let their feelings known about High Limit Racing's international venture
Kyle Larson and Brad Sweet, the masterminds behind High Limit Racing, shared their reactions after the sprint car racing competition moved away from the United States and ventured into Australia.
Here's what Larson had to say about it (via Floracing):
"All of us at High Limit are excited to take the first step in expanding our brand to an international level. Australian sprint car fans are passionate and super supportive. They deserve a six-figure paying race as do the Australian drivers and teams."
Sweet, speaking about High Limit Racing's international trip to Perth, said (via Floracing):
"Just because they have such a great thing going and such a great race track, such a great facility, it was a no-brainer for us to start here,” Sweet said. “They do a great job here and the community really gets behind it.”
Kyle Larson is set to compete in the upcoming Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in January next year. He will be one of the seven NASCAR drivers to participate in the Super Bowl of Midget Racing.
