Kyle Larson, a versatile genius in racing, was recently part of Tulsa Shootout. He is a former NASCAR Cup Series champion, and the winner of events like Kings Royal, Knoxville Nationals, and the Chili Bowl Nationals. In the 2025 Tulsa Shootout, he missed the win despite putting up a fierce battle against Christopher Bell.
In a recent interview with reporter Alan Cavana via SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Larson talked about the time when he got corrected by his fellow racer Steven Snyder Jr. about riding the high line. Although a great technique to pack speed in NASCAR’s plate tracks like Daytona and Talladega, Larson thought it wasn’t meant for non-winged cars.
Larson’s teammate, Jason Parsley, had originally planned on running that line. Larson was not sure if it would work. But when Snyder Jr. rode the line, got a flat tire, and yet didn’t lose a lot of speed, the Hendrick Motorsports driver was finally convinced.
“I noticed it didn't really look like he lost that much speed doing that,” said Larson. “So I just kinda started delving into it inching into running that line and then got comfortable with it and made it work. It's hard to run but I was able to make it work to get myself close enough."
Larson's Cup Series teammate William Byron was impressed. He posted a short clip of Larson in action on X and wrote:
"The old iRacing cushion line...he's actually making it work. What a beast."
Larson bagged his fifth Golden Driller Award by winning races in Winged Outlaw and Winged A-Class. Notably, he had previously won a race with Outlaw Karts at the Tulsa Shootout.
Kyle Larson is just a month ahead of the season-opening NASCAR clash at Winston-Salem’s Bowman Gray Stadium. Scheduled for February 2, the 200-lap race will stream on FOX with radio updates on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Kyle Larson to enter the 2025 Chili Bowl alongside newly signed teammate
Kyle Larson is set for this year’s Chili Bowl. He will be joined by teammate Chase Purdy, who is expected to make starts in the ARCA, the Truck Series, and the Xfinity Series for Hendrick Motorsports in 2025.
Larson made his first appearance in the prestigious midget car event when he was just 15. He has won the event twice (2020, and 2021) and is now on the hunt for his third triumph. This time, he will drive the No. 1k for Silva Motorsports.
But Kyle Larson isn’t the only NASCAR driver to participate in what the racing aficionados call the “Super Bowl of midget racing.” He will be joined by Ty Gibbs, Kyle Busch, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Christopher Bell.
As per journalist Matt Weaver, four-time Cup Series champion and current Vice Chairman for Hendrick Motorsports, Jeff Gordon will serve as the Grand Marshal of the event.
