NASCAR insider and host of Rubbing is Racing podcast, Large Barstool, recently cautioned Kyle Larson about his potential move to F1. In light of the FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s recent comments regarding efforts to reduce the increasing use of foul language on team radios, the NASCAR insider remarked that if Larson were to make the switch, he would be racing alongside a bunch of cowards.
During a conversation with Kevin Harvick on the Happy Hour podcast, Kyle Larson had colored on his interest in F1 and the planning required to make this possible transition, stating [via Fox Sports]:
"I would love to do it, and it sounds like hopefully I'll get to it down the road. I think it was an option this year, I just have so much going on. It's like something that I need to plan probably a year in advance or more."
The 32-year-old also expressed interest in participating in one of the open test-style sessions, like the one held after Abu Dhabi, when other drivers are also on track.
However, following the recent decision by F1 authorities to curb the use of foul language, and the confirmation that a request has been made to FOM, F1’s commercial rights holder, to limit the transmission of inappropriate communication and swearing, Large Barstool gave the #5 Hendrick Motorsports driver a word of caution:
"Imagine someone f*cking from NASCAR says that. That is so if you want a reason to not like F1- they are absolute f*cking baby sh*t. They bleep it out on the, um, on the broadcast just like they do in NASCAR too. So I just want Kyle Larson to know that I’m sending it out to you if you do leave us for F1 you're going over to race with a bunch of f*cking p***ies."
Recently, even the current F1 points leader [331 points], Max Verstappen, found himself penalized for uttering an expletive concerning his car's performance in the previous round in Azerbaijan. By Friday, he had been summoned before the stewards and mandated to undertake community service within F1 as a penance for his choice of words.
Kyle Larson talks about his reasons for writing a lengthy post that criticized detractors of NASCAR
In a discussion with Dirty Mo Media, Kyle Larson explained his motivation for responding to critics who blamed NASCAR and Goodyear for the lackluster race at Bristol. He expressed his thoughts, saying:
"I think just kind of a culmination of everybody, the fans, NASCAR, like I said. And some of the stuff like nobody really has the answers. So, it's hard to point fingers at people, but it just kind of burns me out a little bit, to talk about tire wear like it's always been a thing at Bristol and it hasn't."
Following Kyle Larson's win in the first elimination race of the playoffs at Bristol, where he led 462 of the 500 laps, fans and critics voiced their dissatisfaction with Goodyear. They blamed the tire manufacturer for not living up to expectations, which they alleged resulted in a boring Bass Pro Shops Night Race with minimal tire wear.
It starkly contrasted with the previous Bristol race in spring, which had witnessed 54 lead changes due to tire wear, forcing drivers to pit as early as Lap 30. This time, however, the tires endured for approximately 125 laps.
Larson is currently at the top of the Cup Series standings with 3047 points to his name, 15 ahead of second-ranked Christopher Bell.
