Week after week, NASCAR drivers are behind the highly modified stock cars competing each season for the championship. The current NASCAR Cup Series car is the seventh-generation model, known as the Next-Gen car, boasting a fuel-injected V8 engine that can produce 670 bhp and a speed of 200 mph. However, while these fast cars seem perfect for high-octane racing, are they the preferred option for race car drivers for daily chores like getting groceries?
NASCAR has three primary manufacturers — Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota. The original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) even extend their relationships with drivers outside the racetrack. The automotive company primarily invests in the sport and uses NASCAR drivers as the face of the brand, hence giving out free vehicles for their personal use.
In a brief interaction, drivers were asked to name their favorite cars outside the racetrack. Five drivers of the NASCAR Cup Series revealed their preferred vehicles below (via Chat Us Up's Instagram):
5. Alex Bowman
The Hendrick Motorsports driver Bowman, who recently won his first race of the season on the streets of Chicago in his Chevy Camaro, revealed that he has the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. The two-seater sports car can go 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds and has a starting price of $112,700.
4. Joey Logano
The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Logano drives the Ford Mustang for Team Penske in the Cup Series. Logano revealed that the 1924 Model T, a car manufactured by Ford in the early 1900s, is his favorite car outside the oval racetracks. Due to its affordability, it was also one of the best-selling cars in history.
3. Ryan Blaney
The defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Blaney deemed the 1985 Ford Bronco to be his favorite. Blaney, who drives the Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Team Penske, bought the '85 Bronco in the winter of 2018 and is the second owner of this vehicle. This classic American automobile was the first to be called a 'Sports-Utility Vehicle'.
2. Chase Elliott
The Hendrick Motorsports star Elliott is seen competing in the Chevy Camaro for his team in the Cup Series. When asked about his favorite vehicle, Chase Elliott, the son of NASCAR legend Bill Elliott, gave an unnatural response. He revealed that the Chevrolet Tahoe, a full-size SUV, is his favorite and believes that any vehicle that helps him get from Point A to Point B will be his preferred choice.
1. Denny Hamlin
Joe Gibbs Racing driver and co-owner of 23XI Racing drives the Toyota Camry in the Cup Series. However, he declared the Lexus LFA, the luxury car from Toyota, to be his favorite outside the track. Hamlin owns the rare LFA Nurburgring edition, which was one of the 50 produced by Lexus. It was recently priced at $1,670,000.
