In a recent development, Richard Childress Racing announced Richard Boswell as the crew chief of Austin Dillon's #3 Chevy. Boswell was previously the crew chief of the Stewart-Haas Racing driver Chase Briscoe.
Since the departure of Tony Stewart-owned SHR from stock-car racing, all the drivers of the Ford roster were searching for new homes. SHR's Ryan Preece was the last remaining driver without a car and now has one with RFK Racing. Noah Gragson and Josh Berry have landed a ride with Front Row Motorsports and Wood Brothers Racing, respectively. #14 Briscoe was the first driver from the SHR shed to get a new home under Joe Gibbs Racing for the 2025 season.
While all four Ford drivers of SHR have found a new home for the upcoming season, Richard Childress has announced a few leadership roles under the Chevy shed acquired from the defunct SHR.
According to a recent report, Boswell will be replacing Justin Alexander as the crew chief of the #3 Chevy team. Additionally, former crew chief John Klausmeier has joined RCR as a Technical Director from the SHR shed.
"RCR announces Richard Boswell (Briscoe's crew chief) comes to the organization as crew chief for Austin Dillon (replaces Justin Alexander). Randall Burnett continues as Kyle Busch crew chief. Keith Rodden VP of Competition. John Klausmeier (SHR) is now technical director," reported Bob Pockrass on X.
"Feels like a full-circle moment": Richard Boswell makes his feelings known on joining Richard Childress Racing
The #3 Richard Childress Racing car was famously driven by NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, who has won six Cup Series championship titles with the same ride.
With over 15 years of experience in NASCAR, Richard Boswell shared his thoughts on joining the #3 Chevy team and said (via rcrracing):
"I have tremendous respect for Richard Childress, Austin Dillon and all of the hardworking people at Richard Childress Racing and I am honored to have the opportunity to help contribute to the on-track success of the legendary No. 3 Chevrolet."
"My dad used to race with Dale Earnhardt so he was always a huge fan and the No. 3 was the car we all grew up cheering for in my household so this truly feels like a full-circle moment," he added.
With Boswell as the crew chief, Briscoe secured a thrilling win at the final regular-season race that earned his spot for the playoff round. The #14 Ford team also accumulated three top-fives and nine top-tens in 36 races.
