Despite his recent retirement announcement, Martin Truex Jr. has revealed his intention to keep marking his presence at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. During a talk with motorsports reporter Joseph Srigley about his 2025 schedule, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver unfurled his desire to keep coming back to Loudon.
Since 2022, Truex Jr.'s retirement notion did rounds in the community but he rubbished them by signing a contract extension in 2022 and 2023 with the North Carolina-based outfit. However, nearly two weeks back, the #19 Toyota driver finally broke the news and announced that he would be calling quits on his racing career following the conclusion of the 2024 Cup Series season.
However, Martin Truex Jr. claimed that he wouldn't be parting with the sport entirely and would mark his presence at JGR's garage serving other roles
Ahead of the USA Today 301 on the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the #19 Toyota driver was asked about his future schedule. He replied by highlighting his willingness to return to the 1.058-mile oval, where he triumphed in 2023.
"I haven't really looked into all that yet and started the scheduling process. Kind of just focused on what we're doing here but you know eventually we'll figure it out and it's definitely a place I would love to come back to," Truex Jr. said via X.
"Excited about that"- Martin Truex Jr. speaks on the probability of running races under 23XI Racing's banner
Shortly after Truex Jr. announced his retirement, his teammate and 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin emerged with a turn-key opportunity. The latter revealed if the former wishes to ride a few Cup races anytime in the future, 23XI Racing will always have a seat reserved for the veteran driver.
“I told him that I will have his Daytona 500 car ready immediately,” Hamlin said via NASCAR. “Tell me the word. 100%. I would 100% do that. … Any time that Martin gets bored and wants to run Cup, we would have a seat for him for sure.”
While speaking on his unconfirmed 2025 schedule, Joseph asked Martin Truex Jr. if he would drive Hamlin's co-owned team's car or somebody else's ride in his future stints. The JGR driver revealed that some "figur[ing] out" was being done as he talked with his teammate about the matter.
“We just kind of started talking because he threw it out there in the media center and we’ve chatted a few times this week. “A few things to figure out, but it seems like we will be able to do some races if we want, which will be awesome. Excited about that. It is really cool that Denny did that and reached out this week. It means a lot to me.”
Martin Truex Jr. is currently fifth in the NASCAR Cup Series standings with 530 points to his name. His best performance so far has been a runner-up finish at the Food City 500.
