From the 2024 NASCAR Truck Series, Matt Mills is set to replace Carson Hocevar and he will drive the No.42 Chevrolet Silverado for Niece Motorsport.
Niece Motorsport released a team statement stating the news on Thursday. Mills stated that he is excited about the opportunity with the team.
“I’m really excited to join the Niece Motorsports team for the full Truck Series season next year,” said Mills in the team statement.
He continued:
“This is a great opportunity for me to get into top-tier equipment. It felt good to get on track this year and show speed, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to continue that. I’m so thankful to everyone at J.F. Electric and Utilitra for believing in me and their continued support.”
Since 2016, Mills has been racing in the Truck Series on a frequent schedule. In 2023, he competed in two races for Kyle Busch Motorsport and six races for Young's Motorsport.
Niece Motorsports General Manager Cody Efaw stated that since Mills has experience in the Truck and Xfinity series, the team is excited to have him.
“I think a lot of people took notice of Matt this year at Richmond and Milwaukee. He’ll be a great addition to our organization as we look to continue the success the 42 team had this season. Matt has a lot of laps under his belt in both the Truck and Xfinity Series," he was quoted as saying in the same statement.
Matt finished fifth in his debut race with KBM Racing at Richmond. This was his career-best finish in the NASCAR top three series and his second top-10 finish in his national series career.
In his lone Cup Series debut in Kansas in 2021, Mills finished in 38th place. His career has been primarily spent in the Xfinity Series, where he has started 123 races and achieved top-10 finishes, including at Daytona in 2019.
Marco Andretti returns to the NASCAR Truck Series
Marco Andretti is set to drive the No.7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet during the NASCAR Truck Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway and at Phoenix.
“I’ve driven both of these race tracks in IndyCar, but with much higher g-forces and a lot more throttle. We’ll only have 20 minutes of practice and then we go right into qualifying. I’ll be thrown back into the deep end again, but that’s the best way to learn," he said (via speedpost.com)
In 251 career IndyCar starts, Andretti has accumulated six pole positions, two victories, and 20 podium finishes. Andretti has only made one other NASCAR start in his career, taking part in the Xfinity Series contest at the Charlotte Roval in 2022. After being caught up in a mid-race crash, he placed 36th overall.
