In the midst of a debate ignited by Kyle Larson's claim about his driving abilities compared to F1's Max Verstappen, a NASCAR insider humorously took a dig at him during a video shoot. While Dirty Mo Media host Andrew Karland interacted with several drivers, including Brad Keselowski, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson, and William Byron, it was Karland's witty jab at Larson that captured attention during a challenge where each was asked to tie a tie.
Following his victory at the Knoxville Nationals not long back, Larson boasted to Flo Racing that he considered himself a better driver than Max Verstappen, arguing that the Formula 1 driver would most likely struggle at venues like Bristol and the Chili Bowl. The assertion sparked lively discussions within the NASCAR community.
While several NASCAR insiders had different opinions about the same, recently, out of nowhere, the Dirty Mo Media host Andrew Karland, revived the ongoing debate. The occasion involved a challenge where NASCAR drivers attempted to tie a tie. Brad Keselowski excelled at the task, while others like William Byron struggled.
Ryan Blaney managed to tie his, although it barely resembled a proper tie. However, when Kyle Larson failed at his attempt, Andrew Karland quipped,
"Max Verstappen can't either, so..."
Later in the video, as Jeff Gluck and others observed, Karland took it upon himself to teach Larson how to tie a tie properly. But when Jeff Gluck instructed Larson to adjust the front of the tie, Larson pulled so vigorously that it turned into a knot.
Kyle Larson reflects on his performance during the latter part of the NASCAR regular season
Despite securing four victories in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series regular season, including his last win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in late July, Larson's subsequent finishes have been less impressive. He managed only one top-5 and one top-10 finish out of four races following his triumph in Indianapolis.
In contrast, at the start of the season, between the March 2024 Bristol race and the May Kansas race, even without securing victories, he consistently finished in the top 5 in four races and clinched a win at Kansas Speedway.
Discussing the dip in his performance in the latter half of the season, Kyle Larson commented during a recent interview with Fox Sports:
"Overall, I think our regular season for the next-gen era probably was as good as it's been. I crashed a little bit more than I wanted to the second half of the regular season, so that was a bummer and missed out on a lot of opportunity because of that with fast race cars. First half went great, second half went typical Kyle Larson."
As the playoffs approach, Larson enters the first race at Atlanta as a favorite. With an average finish of 18.8 over 13 Cup starts at the track, including two top-5s and four top-10s, the Hendrick Motorsports driver is keen to improve on these statistics.
