McKenna Haase, a 27-year-old racecar driver, was involved in a serious crash at Knoxville Raceway this Friday, August 9th. Her car flipped over during the first lap and she suffered injuries. Her mother, Kelly Ann Haase, recently shared updates about her condition.

McKenna Haase had a violent crash during FVP Hard Knox night on August 9. The Iowa native, who was supposed to be moved to a hospital in Des Moines, is currently at Knoxville Hospital. Both the trauma centers at Des Moines were full.

Doctors are monitoring her closely to make sure they don’t need to put in a chest tube. She has chest pain, a lung issue, a sore neck, and cuts to her mouth and tongue.

Writing about the incident on social media, McKenna's mother provided an update about her daughter's condition and thanked everyone for their prayers and support. She said McKenna is in a lot of pain but is stable.

"McKenna is currently in a lot of pain. She has chest pain, a pneumothorax in her lungs, ripped up mouth and tongue, very sore neck and body. She was to be transferred to Des Moines, but both trauma centers (Mercy and Methodist) are full," Kelly Ann Haase wrote.
"Knoxville Hospital is going to hold her here and continue to monitor the pneumothorax with x-ray and CT. We pray that they will not need to insert a chest tube. She is currently stable. Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers - we sincerely appreciate it," she added.

McKenna Haase’s accident details

FVP Hard Knox night is an exciting Sprint Car event where drivers who haven't qualified for the main races get another chance.

However, McKenna Haase had a scary crash when her No. 55 sprint car hit Terry McCarle's car and slammed into the wall. The car landed hard on its top after first hitting the wall and then the track. Fortunately, the car's strong design and safety features protected her from more serious injuries.

McKenna Haase is a racecar driver from Des Moines, Iowa. She started her own race team at 13 and began racing box stock outlaw karts in 2010. She currently lives in Indianapolis and races 410 sprint cars across the Midwest.

McKenna started racing sprint cars at Knoxville Raceway at 17. In her second season, she became the first woman (in 114 years) to win a sprint car race at Knoxville Raceway.

The racing community is supporting her as she recovers from this crash.
