Two-time NASCAR Cup Series race winner Michael McDowell recently celebrated his 40th birthday. The Arizona native took to social media to share a photo of himself and his family celebrating the occasion.
McDowell, his wife, Jami, and the couple's children were out at Famous Toastery, a breakfast restaurant located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The soon-to-be driver of the #71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet posted a photo from the breakfast place to his Instagram and wrote the caption:
"Birthday breakfast at our favorite place! @FamousToastery 🍳 #FamouslyFresh"
The birthday celebration came shortly after McDowell was presented the 2024 Busch Light Pole Award for tallying the most pole awards in the 2024 season. McDowell piloted the #34 Front Row Motorsports Ford to a six pole in the 2024 Cup Series season, which came at Atlanta, Talladega, Gateway, and Daytona.
McDowell posted a video via Instagram of himself holding the Busch Light Pole Award trophy.
"The product of hard work and determination. 🏆," he wrote.
During his final season with Front Row Motorsports, McDowell registered seven top 10s, and two top fives, and finished 23rd in the points standings. The 40-year-old spent seven seasons at FRM dating back to 2018. He won his first career NASCAR Cup Series race in the 2021 Daytona 500 in what was his 358th career start, the second-most starts a driver went without winning their first race.
Only Michael Waltrip took more races to win, at 463. McDowell won his second career race last season at the Indianapolis Road Course. He is set to take over the #71 machine for Spire Motorsports in 2025.
Michael McDowell said he's "humbled" to drive for Spire Motorsports in 2025
In May, it was confirmed that Michael McDowell would be leaving Front Row Motorsports at the end of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season. The Cup veteran made his future known that he would be headed to Spire Motorsports in 2025.
In a post via Instagram, McDowell said he's "humbled" to join the team and anticipates helping build the team into a winning one.
"I’m incredibly humbled by the opportunity to join @spiremotorsport in 2025 and look forward to helping them build a race winning and championship contending program," the American said.
McDowell will join Carson Hocevar and Justin Haley at Spire Motorsports. Hocevar piloted the #77 machine to the 2024 Rookie of the Year honor, while Haley joined Spire Motorsports midway through the 2024 campaign to take over the #7 car from Corey LaJoie.
Zane Smith formally drove the #71 car before being replaced by McDowell. Smith tallied two top fives in 2024, including a runner-up finish at the Nashville Superspeedway.
