Former Cup Series champion Kyle Larson is regarded as one of the most talented drivers in the NASCAR circuit. His wife Katelyn shared a special post from his 2024 season, calling it Larson's "coolest moment of the year" on Instagram.
Larson began the 2024 Cup Series season on a mixed note, finishing two of the first four races in the Top 10s. Despite a slow start, Larson was able to clinch a berth in the 2024 Playoff by winning at Las Vegas in March. Through the regular season, Larson secured three more wins (Kansas, Sonoma, and Indianapolis) and 16 Top 10s finishes.
The Californian racer added two more wins at Bristol and Charlotte in the Round of 16 and Round of 8, respectively. Larson eventually ended sixth in the championship. With the season now over, his wife Katelyn shared a post on Instagram where Larson is photographed after arriving at the North Wilkesboro Speedway in a helicopter.
A video of Larson's special moment was shared on North Wilkesboro Speedway's Instagram page along with Katelyn, Kyle, Hendrick Motorsports, NASCAR, and B/R Racing.
Here's a look at the post, captioned:
"Coolest moment of the year, tbh. 🚁"
Larson had taken the helicopter because he was short on time ahead of the race. His race at Indy 500 ended on May 19 at around 6.00 PM ET and the All-Star Race was scheduled to flag off at 8.00 PM ET. Hence, he subsequently flew to the North Wilkesboro Speedway in a Bell 429 chopper.
Apart from the Cup Series, Larson also competed in the iconic Indy 500 race during his first-ever Double Duty run on Memorial Day.
"I just can’t believe it. It’s just surreal to win here," - Hendrick Motorsports' Kyle Larson on winning his first-ever Brickyard 400 race at Indianapolis
After several unsuccessful attempts in the past few years, Hendrick Motorsports' Kyle Larson clinched victory at the iconic Brickyard 400 race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2024. This race is one of the four crown jewels in NASCAR's calendar, and Larson led in the final 32 laps to win it.
The 31-year-old Californian racer finished the race just 0.282 seconds ahead of pole-sitter Tyler Reddick of 23XI Racing.
"Today was definitely meant to be for us with the way the strategy was working out and all that fell into place. I just can’t believe it. It’s just surreal to win here," Larson said after climbing on the roof of his #5 HMS Chevrolet race car.
"This is just such a prestigious place, such hallowed ground. Pretty neat to get an opportunity to race here on the oval again. What a job by our team. I mean, never gave up at all. And to all the fans, I love it here. I think everything has come full circle with what was meant to be and today was meant to be for us," he added during the post-race interview.
Larson has now won three (Southern 500, Brickyard 400, and Coca-Cola 600) of the four crown jewels. The 2021 Cup Series champion will be aiming to win the fourth and perhaps the most important race on NASCAR's calendar, the legendary Daytona 500.
