Martin Truex Jr., in a recent video with Interstate Batteries, opened up on some personal and professional questions, ahead of this week’s NASCAR race.

Competing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series with the No. 19 Toyota Camry XSE, Martin is best known for winning the Championship in 2017. He has had 34 career victories in the Cup Series and is also a two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion (2004-05).

Here are five fascinating personal insights he shared:

1. Favorite race day routine

Martin Truex Jr. likes to keep his race day routine simple.

"I like to sleep in as late as possible," he says.

His race day is usually busy with several sponsor commitments, meet and greets, and other appearances. But he said that he finds time for himself by waking up late.

"Sleep in, get all that stuff done, and then I like a little time to eat some food and relax," he explains.

This, according to him, helps him clear his mind and focus on the race ahead.

2. Favorite moment on track

Truex Jr.'s favorite moment on the track was winning the championship race at Homestead in 2017.

"My favorite moment has to be winning Homestead in 2017 for the championship race," he recalls.

3. Favorite racing movie

Truex Jr. loves the movie "Days of Thunder."

This 1990 classic racing film, where Tom Cruise plays the leading role, is centered around the fast-paced world of NASCAR racing.

4. Biggest fish Martin Truex Jr.'s ever caught

When asked about the biggest fish he ever caught, he points to the fishing stick in his hands and says:

"It was as long as this rod, at least"

5. His idol

Lastly, Martin Truex Jr. finishes the video by expressing that his father has always been his greatest idol.

"My dad was my hero, you know, raising a family and he raced on the side too," he says.

He also credits his father for his interest in racing.

"And that's how I got into it," he adds.

Truex Jr. has had an incredible career, and you can catch him race in the green Interstate Batteries car one last time on Sunday. He is 6th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings this year with 640 points, 4 top-5 finishes and 9 top-10 finishes.

Driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, the 44-year-old plans to retire after the 2024 season. Chase Briscoe will replace him in the 2025 Cup Series.
