Kyle Larson and Chase Briscoe were involved in a crash at the maiden 2024 NASCAR Playoff race at Atlanta. Larson, who is one of the title favorites crashed and collected Briscoe in the process at the final stages of the first stage. The Hendrick Motorsports superstar and the Stewart-Haas Racing driver were released from the infield care center after evaluation.
2023 Defending champion Ryan Blaney eventually won the stage under the green and white checkered flag. Despite an early setback in the first playoff race, Larson is still 12-points safe from the elimination cut-line.
SHR's Chase Briscoe said after the crash:
"I’m good. My private area hurt pretty bad at first, just when I hit it was a big hit, but, other than that, I’m totally good. My head, everything feels fine. I’m glad my ankles didn’t get messed up. The brake pedal and everything went through the floorboard, so I’m thankful that I’m alright, for sure.”
He also stated:
"We weren’t very good at all balance-wise and I still felt like I was able to kind of run right there around the seventh to 12th place guys."
Larson bore heavy contact with the wall and damaged his car badly. Briscoe unfortunately found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Chase Briscoe shares if either of the next 2 races are 'must win' after crashing in Atlanta
SHR's Chase Briscoe is confident of making it to the next stage of playoffs after wrecking early at Atlanta. Despite his race ending after contact with Larson, Chase Briscoe is not letting that discourage his chances in the upcoming races.
When asked if either Bristol or Watkins Glen was a must-win race, Briscoe told the media:
“I mean, either one. I think we’re gonna be really good. Bristol, we’ve started in the top three of four there the last three times we went. We’ve obviously had really good speed. We tested there about a month-and-a-half ago, and then the road courses we’ve always been really good.
Briscoe was also optimistic about his chances at Watkins Glen. He stated:
"I think we’re gonna be in good shape. The slick, wore out, where we’re slipping and sliding around is typically when we’re our strongest, so I feel like we can win any of the two.”
Meanwhile, Tyler Reddick made contact with Carson Hocevar in the pit lane after the first stage pit stops. Another championship rival Christopher Bell was penalised for pitting outside his box.
