Wood Brothers Racing recently announced that #4 Cup Series driver Josh Berry, who drives for Stewart-Haas Racing, will replace Harrison Burton for the 2025 season, piloting the #21 Ford.
Harrison Burton was with his team, chalking out strategies for the upcoming race at Chicago, while WBR was announcing Josh Berry as his replacement. In response to this news, Burton shared a video on Instagram in which he expressed gratitude to WBR for everything that they had done for him. In the comments section, his fiancée, Jenna Petty, expressed her support and compassion for him.
"My ride or die. Love you," Petty wrote.
Harrison Burton and Jenna Petty have reportedly been together since 2017. The couple got engaged earlier this year, on the 27th of March. Petty is a dancer at a North Carolina-based dance school and is also a member of Dance Productions #TheRemix. She graduated from High Point University, which is affiliated with the United Methodist Church in North Carolina, in 2023.
Harrison, the son of NASCAR legend Jeff Burton, responded to this change in the roster with grace and dignity, saying that this is how business works. He also appreciated WBR for how they handled the situation. Furthermore, he shed light on being focused on the current season and bringing in positive results. He said:
"Our team is as motivated as ever to try and get them(WBR) win number 100, and I'm on that same boat. We're still full steam ahead, and pushing."
The 23-year-old Burton is in his third season with WBR (Wood Brothers Racing) in the Cup Series. In the time he has raced for WBR, he has secured one top-5 finish, which came in 2022 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and four top-10 finishes, one of which came this year at the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. His average finish has also dropped from 22.8 in his rookie season to 26.7 in the current season.
Potential paths for Harrison Burton in 2025
It is believed across NASCAR fandom that the 23-year-old Harrison Burton was rushed up to racing in the Cup Series, and with his sub-par performance during his time at WBR, Burton might have to move back to the Xfinity Series.
Burton could make his return to the Xfinity Series, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing. His previous experience with JGR in the Xfinity Series includes 4 race wins and eight consecutive finishes in the points. With his skill and knowledge, Harrison Burton would be looking to come back to winning ways.
Haas Factory Team is another potential landing spot for Harrison Burton. Following the closure of Stewart-Haas Racing, co-owner Gene Haas has decided to continue racing in NASCAR. Haas Factory Team will race in the Cup Series and the Xfinity Series. Xfinity Series driver Cole Custer is likely to race for Haas Factory Team in the Cup Series, which would leave an empty seat, providing a potential move to the Xfinity Series for Harrison Burton.
