Jimmie Johnson has revealed who he goes to for support amid challenging times at Legacy Motor Club. Johnson said the support from his wife and family is important to him in his pursuit of improving his team in NASCAR.
Johnson is a 49-year-old former NASCAR Cup Series driver currently serving as the co-owner of Legacy Motor Club. He has been married to Chandra Janway since 2004, and the couple has two daughters: Genevieve and Lydia.
In an exclusive interview with Jeff Hammond during EPARTRADE's 5th Annual Race Industry Week, Jimmie Johnson opened up on the importance of the support that he receives from his family.
"My wife's support is so important to me and my family's because it has been traveling quite a bit and being away from the adventure that we set out to have here in England," Johnson said. [16:41]
Johnson may be far from home working in the United States, but his family, who resides in England, understands his situation.
"But everyone's understanding and gets it, and they know dad can't sit still and they're proud of me for being bold and chasing something."
The seven-time NASCAR champion concluded by stating that choosing Toyota was the best decision for Legacy Motor Club, despite their recent seasons falling short of expectations.
"It's tough. I mean you have to put so much trust in other people, and, you know, it's your OEM, it's your own workforce, there's just so many layers that go with it and strategically, we've been making smart decisions as we go, and over time, we'll figure out if those are the right ones. But I truly believe that the relationship with Toyota is the right decision for Legacy Motor Club."
This year, Legacy Motor Club made changes in the executive department in a bid to improve its performance. The team appointed long-time Joe Gibbs Racing race engineer Jacob Canter as the director of competition and NASCAR/IndyCar engineer Brian Campe as the technical director.
As for the driver lineup, Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek will remain on the team for 2025. However, the two Toyota drivers will compete with new crew chiefs, including Travis Mack for the No. 42 team and Ben Beshore for the No. 43 team.
Jimmie Johnson shared plans for 2025 NASCAR season
Following the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, Jimmie Johnson shared his plans for next year. He revealed a part-time NASCAR Cup Series schedule is set, though the number of races has yet to be determined.
Johnson shared:
"Yep. I'll definitely be in the car. I just don't know how many."
The former Hendrick Motorsports driver said he is in talks with sponsor Carvana for his 2025 racing schedule.
"Still to be determined" [the races he would take part in]. "Talking with Carvana now. Looks like we'll have at least a couple races with them and we should have that out here pretty soon," Johnson added.
Driving the No. 84 Toyota Camry for Legacy Motor Club, Jimmie Johnson entered nine races this year. His best finish was the P26 he secured in the final race of the season at Phoenix Raceway.
