Seventeen races have taken place in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season. Reigning NASCAR Cup champion Ryan Blaney claimed his first win of the season after winning the inaugural Iowa Corn 350 at the Iowa Speedway on Sunday, June 16.
In a first Cup race at Iowa, Blaney put on a dominating show, leading 201 of the 350 laps, and held off William Byron and Chase Elliott on the final lap to cross the finish line in P1.
With the win, Blaney gained 57 points and locked his spot in the 16-driver playoff field. He moved to seventh place in the Cup Series points table with 501 points.
After finishing P3 at Iowa, Chase Elliott gained 44 points and secured the top spot in the points table. He has an eight-point lead over his teammate Kyle Larson with 591 points.
Kyle Larson, who started on pole, failed to utilize his advantage and finished 34th after being caught up in a wreck early in the final stage. He gained 22 points and is second in the points table with 583 points and three wins.
