2012 NASCAR Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski feels that one of the biggest challenges to continuing in the sport is finding something that motivates you. While Keselowski mentioned that not having won the ultimate trophy can be a motivation in itself, for him, it's his family who comes down to the tracks to watch him race.
Keselowski debuted in the Cup Series in 2008 with Hendrick Motorsports and then went on to win the title with Team Penske in 2012. He continued with the team till 2021 and moved to RFK Racing in a co-owner and driver capacity. The latest edition of the NASCAR Cup Series wasn't very competitive for the 40-year-old as he had a very difficult start to the season. But he managed to grip on and won one race at Darlington. Post that he had a few top-five finishes as well.
Discussing what keeps him motivated after having spent over a decade racing in the Championship, Brad Keselowski mentioned that it could be any element for a driver, and for him, it is to see his wife and kids during the races.
"I think one of the challenges of being a driver in the Cup Series and going through 10 plus years experience, continuing to find your motivation. You can be motivated by a lot of different things certainly being really close and and just barely missing out on the you know the big trophy is a motivation upon itself. But you know for me one of the the biggest motivations is having my family with the racetracks. My son and two daughters being in Victory Lane," Keselowski said (at 1:35)
Although Keselowski did not have the perfect season this time around, he is hoping to keep his head up in the next season, focusing on the learnings and outcomes of 2024.
Brad Keselowski hopes to come back stronger in 2025
The RFK Racing co-owner managed to bring in fourteen top-10 finishes in the 2024 Cup Series season. Although he did qualify for the playoffs initially with his win at Darlington, he finished the season in 13th place on points.
Reviewing his competitiveness, Brad Keselowski mentioned that he and the team will use what he learned from this season to put it into the car and strategy for the next NASCAR season. They are expecting a better finish with the #6 Ford in 2025.
"This year didn’t always go as planned, but it was a season of learning and growth. I wanted to take a look back at my 2024 NASCAR season—what went right, what didn’t, and how we’re using those lessons to come back stronger in 2025," Brad Keselowski wrote on social media.
He also mentioned the highs and lows the team went through, facing good competitiveness in the first half of the season (except for the two opening races), but losing out on the consistency in the later stages.
"The highs were clearly the months of April, May, and a little bit of June where we were contented to win almost every race. On having one Darlington[win], almost winning the Coke 600 and just a number of second-place finishes including a near miss at Talladega. That was a really great time for us in this season."
Brad Keselowski will continue to pilot the #6 Ford in the 2025 season as well.
