Two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch extended his heartiest congratulations to Noah Lyles, who recently made the headlines by winning the 100m Sprint event at the Summer Olympics in Paris. Lyles finished ahead of Jamaica's Kishane Thompson on Sunday to bag the gold by the barest of margins.
Kyle Busch, also known as 'Rowdy', currently drives the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Richard Childress Racing. He is the winningest driver in both the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (66) and the NASCAR Xfinity Series (102). Busch's 63 wins in the Cup Series is the most among the active drivers and also ranks him ninth in the all-time wins list.
In an earlier video by NASCAR, Busch had manifested the gold for Lyles. Hours before the semifinals, he said,
"From one guy who knows speed to another, I'm wishing Noah Lyles from Men's Track and Field the best of luck. Go get em' over there in Paris."
Reacting to how well his wish fared, Busch took to X (formerly Twitter) to upload a picture of Lyles crossing the finishing line, and said,
"Seems this aged well!! Great race @LylesNoah 🥇"
However, the finals were tough. Lyles finished just five-thousandths of a second ahead of runner-up Kishane Thompson. According to AP News, Lyles' tally came down to 9.784 seconds, while Thompson's was 9.789.
Lyles was told by one of his crew members that the battle would be a close one. Recalling the same, the champion said (via AP News),
"He said, 'this is how close first and second are going to be.' I can’t believe how right he was."
Meanwhile, Busch prepares for the next race of the season; the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway on August 11. He will be entering the 400-lap event 18th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings with 440 points to his name.
