MBM Motorsports was supposed to make their fourth NASCAR Cup Series start of the 2024 season with their number 66 entry at IOWA Speedway this coming weekend. However, the plan has been written off. IOWA Speedway will host a Cup race for the first time this year, but unfortunately, Carl Long's team will not be a part of it due to sponsorship issues.
MBM's most recent Cup Series start was in the 2024 edition of the Coca-Cola 600. However, David Star, who was initially named the wheelman for the #66, was later replaced by BJ McLeod, as the former had other commitments. McLeod eventually finished 37th.
According to a statement made by the team, sponsorships have not lined up for them on time and therefore, the #66 car will not return for the IOWA Corn 350. They also confirmed that their next scheduled race was the Ally 400, which will take place at the Nashville Superspeedway on June 30.
"Unfortunately, we had to withdraw the #66 entry from the Iowa Corn 350@iowaspeedway, as sponsorship did not materialize in time. Our next planned NASCAR Cup Series start: @NashvilleSuperS," MBM Motorsports' statement read.
The team had also fielded the Mustang at the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix earlier at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) and the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway with Truck Series regular Timmy Hill behind the wheel.
The trip to COTA marked the first start for the NASCAR team since Talladega Superspeedway in April 2022 and the first start for Hill since Phoenix in November 2021.
MBM Motorsports set to run several NASCAR races throughout 2024
MBM will reportedly compete in multiple races throughout the season, including those at the Chicago Road Course on July 7, Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 21, and Daytona International Speedway on August 24. However, who drives for them in those races is yet to be announced.
The team is also expected to field the #66 Dark Horse in the 2024 playoffs. The tracks that the Ford team will visit during the ten-race postseason are Bristol Motor Speedway, Kansas Speedway, the Charlotte ROVAL, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and Phoenix Raceway.
Among the MBM Motorsports drivers, David Starr last drove the number 66 at Martinsville and finished 37th, while Timmy Hill wheeled it in the All-Star Open and wounded up 19th.
Meanwhile, Cup Series action will resume at IOWA on June 16 at 7:00 p.m. ET. The 350-lap race will stream live on the USA Network and Peacock. MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio will call the race on the radio.
