As drivers and teams prepare for the Brickyard 400 event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, NASCAR has released its weekly penalty report following the Pocono's weekend schedule. There wasn't mention of any driver but the sanctioning body handed out indefinite suspensions to two crew members.

Two crew members were reported to have violated NASCAR's substance abuse policy. The penalty report indefinitely suspended Cordell Cahill and RJ Otto for violating sections 4.1 and 10.1.A, which are linked with behavioral violations in the NASCAR Rule Book Member Code of Conduct. According to the roster portal, Cahill worked in the IT department for Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin-owned 23XI Racing this season. Meanwhile, Otto last served as the interim crew chief for Bret Holmes Racing in the 2023 Truck Series.

The sanctioning body also issued a $2,500 fine for Ross Chastain's truck crew chief Phil Gould. The part-time Niece Motorsports driver finished P5 at the Pocono Raceway, which led to a post-race inspection by officials. It was found that #45 had an unsecured lug nut that led to the fine.

However, there wasn't any mention of the multi-car wreck initiated by Corey LaJoie that started with Kyle Busch and several others on the weekly penalty report. Busch's spin on Turn 1 with 40 laps to go involved seven other cars at the Pocono Raceway last Sunday.

NASCAR Cup Series gears up for Indianapolis Motor Speedway after three years

For the track's 30th anniversary, NASCAR is back at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway on its 2.5-mile oval layout after a three-year absence. This will be the first time drivers will pilot the next-gen cars at the racing capital of the world.

Pennzoil 250 of the Xfinity Series witnessed Riley Herbst of Stewart-Haas Racing battling in the final laps to claim his maiden win of the 2024 season. Herbst finished a spot ahead of teammate and reigning champion Cole Custer.

Cup Series drivers will battle at the Brickyard 400 before NASCAR takes a two-week break for the Paris Olympics. Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson are firming up to be the top contenders, with the latter returning to Indianapolis after his debut run in the Indy 500 race earlier this season.

Currently, Chase Elliott leads the Drivers' Championship standings, followed by his teammate Larson. 23XI's Tyler Reddick is P3 and is 15 points behind Elliott. Hamlin and William Byron round up the top five in the overall points standings.
