NASCAR veteran Kyle Busch has always been involved and present whenever his son Brexton races in the junior ranks of sprint car racing. Busch recently revealed how he’s preparing and planning Brexton’s future in racing.

Nine-year-old Brexton Busch earned his first Golden Driller trophy in the Junior Sprint A-Main of the 2025 Tulsa Shootout on Saturday (January 4). He put in a commendable performance to win the 20-lap event by leading flag-to-flag. He is making his name in motorsports at a very young age and aiming to follow his father’s footsteps to advance to NASCAR.

In a recent interview with FloRacing at Tulsa, Kyle Busch discussed his son’s racing career and how it would look in the upcoming years. Busch wants his son to become a versatile driver, but for that, young Busch needs a balance between dirt and asphalt racing to keep future opportunities open. However, Busch cleared that the ultimate goal of Brexton’s racing career was to race in NASCAR.

Speaking on Brexton’s racing future, here’s what Busch said:

“I just feel like if you mix in a little bit of the dirt and a little bit of the pavement right now, you can do anything. And for him, like when he turns 16, which path do you want to go? You know, do you want to stay in the dirt world and go run sprint cars or something like that, or modifieds, or late models, or whatever? Or do you want to go to NASCAR and, right now NASCAR is the end goal, so I feel like you got to have some pavement stuff right now.”

Kyle Busch takes inspiration from fellow driver for his son’s versatile racing career

In the aforementioned interview, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion admitted that the importance of versatility in a young driver's development is in balancing both dirt and asphalt racing. For his son, Kyle Busch used Kyle Larson as an example of someone who mastered dirt racing early in his career and successfully transitioned to excelling on NASCAR tracks.

Here's what Busch said:

“I feel like we're doing both. I feel like a mixture of both; he’ll be good at anything. A lot of guys, Larson, right? Like Larson grew up doing the dirt stuff, so he's great at the dirt stuff, but he's obviously great at the NASCAR stuff. I just feel like if you mix in a little bit of the dirt and a little bit of the pavement. But he's obviously great at the NASCAR stuff.”

Kyle Busch’s son Brexton is just nine and has a lot of years ahead of him to decide in which racing discipline he wants to make his career.
