Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick have locked their Championship 4 spots in the last two weeks of races at Las Vegas and Homestead-Miami, leaving two spots among six drivers. The Martinsville race is the final chance for the remaining playoffs to make into the title-deciding race.
Drivers who are below the cut line are Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, the defending Cup champion Ryan Blaney, and Chase Elliott.

Martin Truex Jr. is on the pole for Martinsville race
#19 Toyota Joe Gibbs Racing driver Martin Truex Jr. secured the Busch Light Pole in his next-to-last race before the end of his full-time NASCAR career. He scored the pole with a time of 19.686 and a speed of 96.190 mph. He also had the fastest car in the practice session with a speed of 95.070 mph.
