Longtime NASCAR Xfinity Series team JD Motorsports is in the stages of selling its cars and equipment as part of the team's liquidation through bankruptcy. The latest update regarding the team's bankruptcy was brought to light by FOX Sports NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass.
The news came to light on the heels of Pockrass sharing that Xfinity Series driver Parker Retzlaff signed with Alpha Prime Racing to pilot the #4 car in 2025, a number that became available due to JD Motorsports' departure. Pockrass penned a message via X, writing:
"Parker Retzlaff will join Alpha Prime Racing in 2025 as he will drive a full Xfinity season. He will drive the No. 4 (that number was available for 2025 with the closing of JD Motorsports). Crew chief/sponsorship TBA."
A user then asked the racing insider a question regarding the now-former Xfinity Series team, to which Pockrass revealed that the organization is in the process of selling its cars and equipment.
"JD Motorsports is in the process of selling its cars and equipment as part of its liquidation through bankruptcy," Pockrass wrote.
The rumors swirled around April of this year that JD Motorsports' time in the sport was coming to a close as they filed for Class 11 bankruptcy and proceeded to lay off employees in July. Ahead of the 2024 Xfinity race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Pockrass noted that there were no JD Motorsports entries at the time and that their debt was listed at over $430,000.
"No JD Motorsports cars entered. Team filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy (which allows to continue run while reorganizing debt) in April. Johnny Davis was allowed to continue to run the team on a break-even budget. TBD if it ends up in Chapter 7 liquidation. Listed debts approx $436K."
JD Motorsports is one of the oldest teams in the Xfinity Series having made its debut in 1983. Most recently, the organization fielded the #4 car with multiple drivers behind the wheel in 2024. The team competed in 706 Xfinity Series races but failed to ever win a race.
Tony Stewart's NASCAR team Stewart-Haas Racing ceased operations at the end of the 2024 season
Like JD Motorsports, the 2024 NASCAR season bid goodbye to another longtime team as Stewart-Haas Racing, co-owned by Gene Haas and retired champion Tony Stewart, closed its doors at the end of the 2024 season. SHR competed for 16 full-time seasons in the Cup Series.
The organization won two Cup championships with Stewart in 2011 and Kevin Harvick in 2014. SHR expanded to the Xfinity Series in its later years and won a championship with Cole Custer in 2023. The team most recently fielded four full-time Cup Series cars, driven by Chase Briscoe, Josh Berry, Noah Gragson, and Ryan Preece.
