NASCAR insider Bob Pockrass claimed that Front Row Motorsports, 23XI, and Trackhouse Racing will be the potential buyers for Stewart-Haas Racing's three of the four charters. This comes after the team disclosed that they will shut down at the end of this season after racing for over 22 years.
It was speculated earlier that Stewart-Haas was preparing to sell their charters to other teams and FRM, 23XI, and Trackhouse Racing remained the top speculated buyers. While nothing has been confirmed yet, NASCAR journalist Bob Pocrkass reported on X that the team might sell three of its four charters to the above-mentioned teams, while the buyer for the fourth one remains unclear.
Reports of the team selling off their charters had surrounded the pit wall for a long time, however, nothing was confirmed. Last week, it was reported that the team might be revealing their final decision on Tuesday, and they did.
In a joint statement, they mentioned the reason for the closing of the team. It read:
"We have made the difficult decision to close Stewart-Haas Racing at the conclusion of the 2024 season. It is a decision that did not come easily, nor was it made quickly."
Further in the statement, they said:
"But the commitment needed to extract maximum performance while providing sustainability is incredibly demanding, and we've reached a point in our respective personal and business lives where it's time to pass the torch."
Stewart-Haas Racing driver Chase Briscoe reacts to team's decision to close down - "I have no idea what I'm doing going forward"
Stewart-Haas Racing's decision came as a surprise to the drivers as well. In recent interviews, they mentioned that they were unaware of the team's decisions about the future. After the news was disclosed, Chase Briscoe, driver of the #14 Ford, took to social media to talk about it.
He revealed that he did not have a clue that the team was going to close down, adding that there is uncertainty about his future in the Cup Series. He said:
"Never thought it would happen. Yeah, I have no idea what I'm doing going forward. It's going to be interesting time these next couple of weeks just trying to find even what's available out there. Hopefully can land on my feet and continue to race in the Cup Series so I appreciate all the support all the love." [1:02 onwards]
Briscoe made his Cup Series debut in 2021 and has raced with Stewart Haas ever since.
Stewart-Haas Racing won two Cup Series championships in the over two decades they spent racing. The first one came from their co-owner Tony Stewart in 2011, and then Kevin Harvick repeated the success in 2014. The latter also brought in their most recent win at Richmond in 2022.
